I would agree about the seat comfort, the XMs have much more supportive seats than the Xantia, but probably only because they are bigger. I was 6'.0 but am shrinking, but find the XM seats have more than enough adjustment, my son who is about 6'3" and has difficulty fitting into most cars also finds it comfortable.
The Mk2 CX also had comfortable seats but they were not as hard wearing as the XMs. I also have an SX at the moment and would say that apart from the lack of electrics, which is no real hardship, they feel almost exactly the same as the VSX ones. I today drove for nearly six hours continuiously in the VSX estate without any appreciable discomfort although I did have difficulty standing up when I got out. The last BX model, the TZD had very comfortable seats and went like the clappers, my son had it when my wife got the ZX, until someone ran into the back of it and wrote it off, but she still prefers the BX, the replacement is 'to slow' for her. Have to say, based on my limited experience of a top jolly leather Xantia and a poverty 1.8 with cloth trim, for my money the Xantia isn't in the same league as the XM for seat comfort. It may well be I have an odd back, but I found the Xantia seats positively uncomfortable after a relatively short time. It depends what you want in a car, but for me there is no faking the big car feel, utility and comfort and the Xantia simply isn't a big car. Have to agree with Peter again (should I be getting worried ??) that the last of the better specced BXs were the next best seats to the XM. Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

I have a Xantia VSX slugomatic here, and an XM 2.1 TD exclusive. The Xantia seats are ok, but are hard without enough lower back support after a couple of hours in the drivers seats. The XM's seats make your @rse go numb after about 2hours driving. The Xantia VSX both out handles and rides better than the XM. how does a Xantia wearing 195/55 gumballs ride better than an XM wearing 205/65 squishy tires ?? Dunno, Especially when the XM is bigger and heavier. The Xantia VSX would leave the XM for dead through corners too....
I must say, I'm insane swapping the Xantia for the XM, as in most ways, the boring POS is a much better car than the XM.... The problem is it just bores me to tears. If you want a car with decent seats ... get a CX ! the BX seats were the worst seats I have ever sat in with a driving position from hell. The Xantias and XM's are quite hard, but not uncomfortable. The CX GTi Turbos are brilliant, and the "chevron' fabric seems to last forever seeya, Shane L. -------------------- Location ... Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.

i sat in Two GTi Turbo Series 2's this weekend and thought the seats were FANTASTIC (Albiet leather) and found I slipped out of the back a little, but the seats was amasing and the lower back support was WONDERFULL!! So my next step to a CX is complete, I love the shape, I love the steering idea, I love the "citroen" parts, I love the seats - I now just need one. Im sure the ordinary seats wont let you slip forward a bit. Oh, I also LOVE the height adjustment, either front tilt or rear tilt to heighten the seat! JUST PERFECT! I love it!! This then means that - Exclusive S2 excluded - the Xantia seats come LAST for me - they just DO NOT do it for me... You need to look at this thread http://club-xm.com/forum/index.php?showto...indpost&p=29735 Re: the two CX on eBay at the moment. If I had a CX I'd like to use it every day as a commuter. Some people say that's possible, others advise me against it. It's an 8-10 mile schlep of country lanes and appalling roads and the XM isolates it all from me very nicely -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

As far as looks go, there's a clear winner with the S2 Cx seats: the red leather in the GTi's is
VISUALLY fantastic and very 80's meets some Tart's Boudoir! OK, an acquired taste but looks great and is very rare. Thing is black is just to...... well black!! And the cream or chocolate were Prestige only not Turbo! But, for me at least leather is all about pose and nothing about comfort or practicality. You slide around on them, they burn in the summer and they're so damned cold in the winter and they don't even hide wear and tear well either! Sorry, you really can't beat sinking into these on a cold wintry day like today: ![]() Well, you can! Get a s1 GTi Turbo seat to sink into - it ratches up another few notches in comfort over EVERYTHING else again!! Andrew |

Don't fret Paul, the two I've got earmarked for you will be fine and you'll get your Cx fix!
They're not going anywhere yet... Andrew |

What's the diff. between an S1 and S2? I presume there's a year after which all are S2? Are the ones on eBay both S2s?

Basically, anything post '85 is s2 and the plastic bumpers and different dash signify the biggest
differences. The s1 is the original DS frogeye version of Cx, the s2 the DS sharknose CX! The seats pictured are s2. The s1 one seats are less sculpted but more armchair DS like! The s1 seats are soo soft and comfy you sit on them but don't stop until you sink into them and get full support all round - my pals say it's a bit like you're being swallowed by a big marshmallow! The best bit is you don't get aches and can travel for hours - if anything you may just get a bit TOO cosy! Andrew |

One of my cars is with the wonderful people at Brodie's and I have their Xantia loaner. Comfortable, better thought out and seemingly better engineered than the XM but my goodness is it boring! It clearly has the same dull DNA they grafted onto all subsequent Citroens
P.S. and the seats are s*** This post has been edited by ThwartedEfforts on December 19, 2008 09:35 am -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

Er --- like what bits ? I see the exact opposite ---generally, nothing in the Xantia seems quite as nicely done as in the XM and the car as a whole has nothing like the same solid feel of an XM. Totally agree about the seats though. Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

It looks and feels to me to be a more modern car, one generation ahead of the XM. The 1995 car on my drive with Captain Kirk mileage is completely solid in every regard. But oh so boring.

I'd agree entirely with your findings Phil; I'm guessing the Brodie loaner is a boggo LX or SX?
I wouldn't expect a VSX/Exclusive or Activa to be a loan car somehow... Boring and dependable isn't what we all sign up for with an Xm or Cx!! Andrew |
