Looks nice and rather reinforces the arguement about scrapping non runners when you can get what looks like a usable car with 6 months ticket for less than 500 quid. That gives you a bit of time to sort it out before the inevitable MOT.
I wonder what my 1993 prestige will fetch when I finally cross to the dark side and get a company car. It's got a dented wing, speedo doesn't work, needs a new back box but drives very nicely. I just don't have the room or time to keep it. I suspect that lack of space is the main reason many otherwise fixable cars go for scrap or spares. Ho Hum John -------------------- Currently XMless

Actually I'd considered posting something similar, given that it's a hot topic - when you can get materially OK cars for less than the tax disc on a C6, scrapping a vehicle that has no MoT and mechanical faults seems like the only sensible option

It's probably at Winkfield rather than Wingfield - just to the north of Bracknell.

Well I phoned to find out more details:
100,000 miles 2 owners This sounds like it could be a great car. The seller was strangely reluctant to give any further details, nor indeed say much at all. Sounded like an old boy. When I asked about seeing the car this coming weekend, he said that someone had already arranged to view tomorrow (Friday) morning at 11am. One of you guys? Anyway, I think if someone's making the effort to go so soon after the ad appears, and let's be honest - it's under a monkey with the tax and ticket - then it'll be gone tomorrow morning at 11am! -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

The car I bought less than a week ago now cost me £900. The guy selling it wanted almost twice that amount, which I said was pretty hopeful. After a visit, it became clear that it was in manifestly better condition than many of the dog-eared examples I'd seen, had never been smoked in, looked very original all round (complete with various scuffs and scratches but no dents), plus had a service history, the old MoTs, original radio, 43,000 miles showing and to top it all drove beautifully, Well, I thought so. Turns out the spheres could do with some love but then they all seem to want that!
EDIT: Just spotted the car on Auto Trader is a manual This post has been edited by ThwartedEfforts on October 30, 2008 11:03 pm -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

Hi All
Not guilty on this one. If I had see the adv first and decided to follow it up then the chances are that I would have bought it over the phone from the description without viewing. 100k on a 2.5 is well under half life. I certainly would not have waited a day or so to view. Really good value XM's sell fast. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Im not fond of black Xms, but that does look pretty good, especially given the price and low mileage.
Im not for scrapping Xms, so they may (do) cost more to put right and keep going than they are worth. However i think they are worth it to keep them running and on the road. We bought our 96 Xm 6 years ago, with 64K miles, full history, new spheres (fitted by us) Tax and test, in mint condition for £1100. We have only done 20K in it in that time, although it has been MOt'd and taxed always, but its been such a lot of car for a bargin price. Its usually what we use for long runs, and its never ever missed a beat, its totally 150% reliable. It can stand for months, you go and turn the key and it fires up straight away. It then thinks nothing of doing hundreds of motorway miles in a day to rest back in its parking place again. It feels far more planted on the motorways, especially in bad weather, than any of our other cars, its an awsome thing! Unless we seem to have an unusually reliable one, id say others are well worth the very little money in reality to keep them going and fix them up when they need to get through another years MOT. I can't see our Xm ever going to a new home, its worth far more to us than it is in real value. If i had the room, there would be quite a large fleet of XM to keep our 7 cars company This post has been edited by Citroenmad on October 31, 2008 12:59 am -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

What is known of these people? I phoned them about a year ago when they had a mint looking CX for sale but the price was mad and the sales chap with whom I spoke completely indifferent. They have a low mileage TD car for sale at the moment but with no price tag. Do people actually pay their prices? It seems hard to believe when the rest of the country asks at most one third the amount. -------------------- 97 'R' XM 2.0i SX Saloon Auto

Their prices do seem very high compared to what they often go for on ebay.autotrader. Although maybe people think it guarantees them a good quality Xm?
They often have a few Xms in stock, which usually look like very good ones, and really its still a lot of car for very little money, even at wolseley prices. Its a shame their internet site doesnt work. Although they do often advertice with a classic car online trader, so some of their stock is on there. I knew of a immaculate 1997 Xm 2.0 Turbo auto, with every option you could get, low mileage (i forget, i think around 70K), very nice dark met. blue, the nice 5 spoke alloy wheels and the guy got £500 in part ex for it at a dealer. I wish id have known, i would have bought it, it was stunning. Thats the kind of car wolseley would have up for £2500 or so! -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles
