1000th forum member today, well that should lead to some celebrations. Honours go to Gea who joined the Club-XM forum today. It was only about 18 months ago we were celebrating 1000 posts and it looks like we will crack 30,000 posts within a month. All of it very good value information. Where is Noz to lead the celebrations?

It seems a lot of new members joining now are sticking around and contributing to the site very often too which can only be good news.
It seems this sites poularity has snowballed over the last year or 2, it wont be long till there's 2k members!

Yes, indeed - welcome Gea - I've been watching the members figure rise to the magic 1000 too!
Good to see you're getting stuck in with the banter too Gea.

Many don't! Out of the 1000 joined 475 are either just passing through or very shy Xm owners
as they haven't posted here the once!! It's not a prerequisite or expected mind, but I feel to get
the true value out of this forum it's far more enjoyable/informative and yes, addictive if you
engage in the true power of this 'club' by talking to fellow afflicted Xm'ers!! cool.gif laugh.gif

Did Citroen really sell 2000 xm's to be able to reach 2000 members ? wink.gif (waits for the abuse and shrieks of derision to begin)

Best wishes to all, Colin.P

A similar thought occurred to me re the possibility of growing to 2000 members, Colin.
A growing membership versus a declining XM population, hope there are enough to go around! If not then prices will have to rise. Scary thought!

I see Auto Trader no longer lists XMs in the drop down Citroen model list so cannot search under that model any more. Very few cars on there lately. The last one was a low mileage 2.1 vsx auto hatch 1995.

Robert on the Autotrader situation, I believe they've redesigned the search box so that it will only show up a particular model if there are some of that car currently listed for sale, so if no XMs are currently up, it won't show on the drop-down box.

The other Robert off here bought a 2.1TD from Autotrader just this week, at least I think it was Autotrader.

RE: 1000 memebers..

I agree with Andrew, and actually wonder how many have joined JUST to tell us they've broke a car, or posted once for information... I DOUBT very much theres a full time 1000 memebers, just scan the "Regular" contributers..

My personal opinion: If I was an admin memeber, Id be scanning the posters, and those who didn't post after a certain time would be knocked off... theres no need for memebers in the list that do not contribute or post again... taking space that could be used else where (if I understand storage space correctly)

Id be much more inclined to think more on the 500 GENUINE memebrs... [an after thought] and prehaps a thousand cars, as most of us have more then one car each, and others make up for those that do only have one wink.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Yes i think thats how autotrader works, the name will only appear when there is a car of that make.

I keep a regular eye on there for Xms, the last one was a dark blue diesel estate, i did ring and leave a message but they never got back to me wacko.gif

Irecall the blue estate ok, think it was a 2.5td and seemed a fair bet if free from serious corrosion.
Ciarán, the last one was a hatch also blue, 2.1 td auto, 1995 with only 60k miles and located in Ballymena so Robert e may well have bought that one. It seemed a Ballymena-Hi! price (local joke folks) at £2349 ono. but if the overall condition corresponded to the mileage and no spending needed near term, then the residual life expectancy could mean a good buy.

It would be very informative to know just how many Xm's are still listed active or on SORN
on DVLA's all knowing all seeing database.

I believe car clubs can make a genuine formal inquiry for a sum of money!
Mind, what did you expect, they'll only do anything if you ply their palm with more than
a chunk of silver.

So, who can ask as spokesperson for Club-XM!?
PeterN, xmexclusive, Noz, Chis Light....!!!!?

What it would show is how much of a shrinking gene pool exists for those who do have a
burning urge to buy another - it may just sharpen the ebay searching!! wacko.gif rolleyes.gif blink.gif laugh.gif

I'd love to know exactly how many Xantia Activas still exist as they're being mercilessly hounded
down by the Activa despatchers and culled to donate their engine to small boring hatchbacks
- can't be many of a small band of RHD registered cars left now... sad.gif

Buy one now if you fancy the idea of owning an example of arguably Citroen's ultimate
development of the hydractive setup! Cheap as chips too but when they've gone they've gone...

We used to have an Activa, about two years ago, my dad bought it for £350, it had had a recent respray as it had been a little scratched by vandals, the paintwork was superb apart from the front bumper was scuffed. So we had the bumper repaired and it looks great, even the wheels were in good condition.

It was a 1996 N reg in the nice metallic red colour, it had only done 64,000 miles with a full service history and it last owner had just spent £750 on the car before we bought it. (i know this because it was my dad who was repairing it)

The guy wanted to trade it in for a mondeo, the ford garage would only offer him £350, so we gave him the money and we kept it.

It was an awsome car, we did not use it very much though. It developed a small leak and the part it needed to fix it was going to be very expensive, more than we paid for the car.

We were offered £1000 for it, but the guy wanted to break it to use parts on a DS! We didnt want it broken as it was a great car, so we didnt sell it to him.

We eventually traded it in for a 1999 XM VSX for the same money we had been ofered. Unfortunately the Xm wasnt the best of Xms and we sold it shortly after.

I wish we still had the Activa, nothing else can quite match that.

A very interesting story! It was a bargain purchase too: bet you do miss it.

I really adore my current Activa that's on the road at the moment but whilst it sounds sexy in black
the very best colour is the Delage red. It's not any boring old red, but poppy, orange, crimson
copper etc in differing lights with its flip paint. Totally fab!

An experience in a fully fettled one is a drive to remember!

That may have been the colour we had, it went a copper/orange colour in bright sunlight: a very hard colour to pick up in photographs:

(Bad picture, but its the only one i can find)

Not sure if it will still be on the road, would be nice if it was.

My dads old job was a Citroen specialist, so we got the suspension working just how it should be. Im not really clued up on how it works, but operating something under the car would have it dancing from side to side!

Odd things they are. Ive always liked Xantias, and the Activa is the ultimate!

(Ps, sorry to hijack the thread a little there)

Hi Andrew

The numbers question for XM's would be rather interesting but it might be better if the question was asked by the CCC as they also have a register of members XM's. Why do they keep it if they do not publish it? Might also be interesting to see if they could get any figures out of Citroen for original supply numbers.

In my opinion there is likely to be a much larger source of supply of European LHD XM's that will typically be available at knock down prices on average 5 years later than the UK ones. I still think the UK Mk2 weeding out process will continue for a few years more as I suspect that the total number of UK XM's was somewhat greater than the annual figures the XM Centre published. Maybe we should be encouraging those of our number who reside in Europe keep us informed about what is available. Perhaps we should start an "available in europe" section of the web site particularly with ebays new rule that you cannot see foreign adverts unless the seller has paid extra for cross border viewing.

John
