I can't speak for the accessories like intercoolers, but surely the final control on the amount of boost arriving at the engine is the throttle butterfly? So overboosting may well write off the intercooler and possibly the turbo through overspeeding, but there should be no harm to the engine.

Incidentally, max power is of course only available at max rpm with a wide open throttle.

Derek

new question what is the stock PSI produced from the 2.0l turbo and what is the max PSI achived on stock internals and head gasket.

not going to argue about build because I cant be bothered

306xm good luck with the build I dont doubt the power avaliable on forges what size injectors are you planning on using ?

Craig

yes I understand your point Derek but with no control on the amount of boost who says it will only reach 200bhp what if the turbo is able to produce 300bhp with no control first thing to go will be the head gasket followed by the engine turning into a big chunk of scrap what about providing fuel for this power are stock injectors good enough for the at a min 25bhp

Where are you going to use all this power, Santa Pod?

I think the TCT turbo is normally limited to 15psi (1 atmosphere) above normal atmospheric pressure.

i like 2.0 turbo engine

I'm afraid you have to keep reminding us of the original question.............being easily and comprehensibly side-tracked comes as an inevitable consequence with the average age and Citroen-obsession of this XM forum biggrin.gif

Ouch Wirdy, that hurt! Funny thing is, I thought Paul had answered the question?
Quote "yup its the waste gate controller.... One goes DOWN to the Waste gate, one goes to the INLET SIDE of theturbo, the other goes to the OUTPUT side of the turbo....."

I'd have taken a couple of in situ shots of mine but the car is belly down with a duff battery.

I just happened to read this thread whilst in the bath. Surely if the turbo was big enough to force feed a 2.0 engine to 300 bhp (150 bhp per litre) using a none vatn type turbo the lag would be horrible. So is it fair to say that the turbo fitted couldn't push the engine to 300 bhp?

I'm not saying it couldn't cause damage mind. Also doesn't the ecu have over boost protection in case the wastegate malfunctions?

300bhp dry.gif possible with some major fettling. One of a few Anti lag systems whilst being noisy and complicated would, as it says on the tin, keep the jet engine of a turbo spooling at low rpm, but the engine would not be what you would call a refined unit, I doubt very much if it would idle with any sense.
It depends what floats your boat, i can really see the apeal of taking a stock engine and turning it into a fire spiting monster, but not in a car you would have to go to work in, Reliability will be an issue certainly and you can forget 10k service intervals laugh.gif

I don't understand why there is this obsession with maximum power. It is a transient thing that is only obtainable at max revs and full throttle. So unless you're hurtling around the banking at Indianapolis it's not going to be much use to you.

We should remember that the intermediate power shown on the engine performance curves is only available at full throttle. The normal driver who uses part-throttle will see reduced outputs of torque and power. For sure the power is available, but seldom used.

My days of spending stupid amounts of time and money tuning engines ended with a 1340 Mini that did 25MPG tootling around.

The current XM is the first petrol car I've owned since a Metro turbo back in the very early 90s.

I still don't really know what to make of the 2.0 Turbo, it's a very different beast to the 2.5. Well at least I now know that they're thirsty.

Steve.
