Hi. I used to have an XM V6 'Exclusive' Auto Estate but after one mechanical f***up too many plus a stroke (followed by another one 12 days later), the car had to go. I cannot remember who to, but it was to someone on this forum. Whoever you are, if you got the damn thing fixed properly, you have a fine car. Problem is, these cars get under the skin....... There's an XM VSX Estate on Ebay from a seller with zero feedback, no picturers and after standing for a year, the brakes have siezed so it will need picking up on a trailer. He says that apart from the brakes, all it needs are new wiper blades.

So, two questions. If anyone here is after it I'll back off (no point in muddying the waters) but if not, can anyone advise me of the relative merits of the 2.5 or the 2.1 diesel? Also, from description only, what do you guys think?

One further question; maybe critical. Does anyone know from their own experience whether insurance companies put premiums up for people who have had epilepsy?

Many thanks...............................Jim.

I think i know the one you mean, there are pictures on now though?

There is no front picture, the rear N/S door looks a little odd at the bottom corner, not sure if its just dirt or rust.

Apart from that it looks pretty tidy, interior looks good.

You would need to go and view it before you bid though, especially with the seller having no feedback. I think it will need a little more than the brakes sorting and new wipers! I could be wrong though.

I made ths mistake of buying an Xm estate on ebay, it was a 750 mile round trip for me to go and collect it (so i wasnt going to view it!) It was a dog, and i left it there. So id recommend viewing, especially as some of these big load luggers do get a little mistreat at times.

Good luck with it smile.gif

Isn't this the Alnwick car you're describing? Hasn't he just posted up pictures!
The adjacent car is a Ferrari 308 if I'm not mistaken...

The Xm looks like a smart car but there may be a bit of rust in the doors if you look hard and
if the work on the brakes was easy surely he'd sort it and get the car mot legal and therefore
more valuable.

May be more to it than meets the eye so be wary!

Not too sure about that; XM's don't fetch a lot on Ebay; don't know what the garage rate would be for supply and fit new handbrake cables but maybe it's the garage selling it; just wants it off their forecourt. Doesn't want the hassle of breaking it so it's sell it or scrap it complete. We'll see. I need to `phone a couple of insurers tomorrow.

Thanks for your help guys.

[SIZE=3] I've had more information from the seller. He says the clutch is good and a new cam belt was fitted 11,000 miles ago. He confirms that there is "some rust" along the nearside door bottoms but that the dark patch on the wing is deceptive; there's no rust there. So; is anyone else going to go for this car? If I do, I have to factor in the cost of getting it here so please; let me know if anyone else is interested. If not, could anyone give me a fixed price for moving it from Alnwick, Northumberland to Kirriemuir, Scotland, a distance of 105 miles according to Ebay.

Rust along the door bottoms. Is this a sign of water coming in via the window seals? If so, does it put a question mark over the wiring or window motor?

Hi Jim

Watching it and was considering a bid near the end but will not now bid against you.
Best of luck with it.

Hi John,

I should have stuck a holding bid on; it's no longer listed for sale. Ebay has their classic catch-all phrase " The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale. " on the site. Hmmm. Dirty deeds behind the woodpile; maybe someone offered him £££ to get it out of his yard; or legit, someone damaged it. Oh well.

My memory is not my strong point. Was it you that bought my V6 Auto, or have I already asked you that? I'm just curious as to how the new owner got on with it. Since selling it, I bought and wrecked a Fiat MULTIPLA. Great cars, but not the easiest for self maintenance. After wrecking the first one I bought another but alas, that had to be sold in January this year; no point in watching it rust plus the temptation to drive would always have been there.............. I should perhaps wait; who knows what will be available in January next year. I did check with RAC insurance; an XM Estate would be insurable for my daughter to learn to drive on when she turns 17 in June next year so if you know of a good diesel (must have working aircon) up for sale............... Jim.

Hi Jim

Has happened on the last three 2.5's I have been actively watching this last month. I assumed that it had gone to you until I saw your post. Sorry you missed it because I though it had the potential to be a good car again. He was due to come back to me with the ORGA number but doubt I will hear anymore. I got almost 30k out of the V6 before it became a major MOT casualty and I decided to use it for spares.

Hi Jim

There is now a silver 2.5 estate on ebay. With MOT, tax and aircon but 175k miles. Seems to have a good service record. Might just be worth a look.

It might also be worth you having a search for postings by DJGLW in the available section as a little while ago he had at least a couple of 2.5 estates to rehome and is located near Glasgow.

John
