1991 2.1 Turbo Sed Mot Failure

Hi, first off thanks to everyone for helping with info in response to my post in the Hydraulic section. As you will see from that post we have had to decide to let our XM go. I think it is too good to scrap but can't afford to fix it.

Failed MOT on only two items (one front tyre and a steering rack leak). The tyre is easily and cheaply sorted (in fact the spare is good) and the rear tyres are only 6 months old. However the steering rack needs replacing and although we have a recon rack (which we will be listing on ebay) our local Citroen independent says the labour could cost anywhere between £160 and £250.

We were going to get the work done as we love the car, BUT the garage then confirmed our worst fear - the clutch is on its way out too.

We really don't want the car to be broken up and hope that it goes to a Citroen enthusiast who has the time and skills to fix it, but if it is to be used for spares then at least it will keep another one on the road. Car is taxed but this isn't included in sale (nor are roof bars, CD player or boot liner).

Good points: Fuel pump just overhauled; 2 new tyres; Only 96,500 miles; All 7 spheres replaced this year at Westroen with recon units; New alternator; Original manuals and dealer history up to 2 years ago; 1 previous owner; All electrics work inc sunroof, seats, both dot matrix displays. Drives excellently; 50mpg/700 miles on tank; Recent engine mount; Full black leather interior.

Bad points: Steering rack leak; Clutch starting to slip; o/s front wing (behind wheel) needs paint finishing after weld.

We would much rather the car goes to a good home than gets scrapped. Drives perfectly still (other than clutch if floored in high gear) but out of MOT so can be driven legally only to a booked MOT test.

Hi, sorry to hear that your XM has to go. Must have been a difficult decision. I hope one of the club members takes it on to put back on the road. Best wishes for the future.

Looks a very nice car and.... the dot matrix display seems to be fully functional - that's got to be worth something. If it was an estate I would seriously consider it.

The Dot matrix WILL ALWAYS work

Its theb S2 ones that are poor..... and S1 to S2's are NOT interchangeable
