Can anyone help me get my rear hatch (door) open? I was in a friends garage fixing my hand brake cables and on completion threw all my tools in the back and drove home, this morning went to open the back up and it will not unlock. What can I do to unlock it from the inside, or whatever

Yep Bob - from the inside dismantled is the way forwards now. You could first try pressing down
on the hatch whilst pulling the handle up - bizarre as this sounds, it works on one of my cars which likes to act up! Of course - being a citroen you press down to pull up - goes without saying!! The inner tailgate covering can be removed from inside the boot (with you tools all removed of course!!) and the mechanism is positioned such that you can pull on the levers to effectively operate the catch which has been shut out by the central locking motor which is now lazy and won't operate correctly to free the catch. There is an alternative I've never done myself where a long rod fed through the removed number plate lights can free the operating rods but someone who's done it need to pick up the thread here! Here is a picture of the lock from inside (and upwards-down):
The rod from the number 2 circle down to the lower right corner in the picture opens the lock. Try to get hand of that one and pull it, when you have opened the lid for light bulb exchange in the tailgate covering from inside. You will reach it from the right lid (that´s on our left when you are in the trunk facing the tailgate from inside... |

Thanks Andrew and Paberg, I was looking at that doorway to the lights from the outside but haven't tried anything yet, everything is going at once, just fixed a broken hand brake cable, then my rear nearside window winder broke and now this. I'll get to this on Monday when I've recovered a wee bit.
Kind regards. Bob. -------------------- Retired.
