Who's to say it won't go for 800+quid in the end! Andrew |

Its not legally driveable though - that usually makes a lot of difference. If it had been manual I would have been up there.

Hi All
The current ebay prices for XM's make complete sense to me in the present market. It is just a sad fact of life and will stay that way until rarity makes them a collectors item which I think is at least 5 years away when Mk2's become thinner on the ground than Mk1's. Only the Mk1 24 valve is out of step and beginning to stabilise in value. Buy XM's now and the cost of storage will more than outweigh any increase in value later. The only ways to win are to keep what you have going and to buy at todays knock down prices to repair, use or for spares. For the average XM user their car is just another facet of everyday life that they need working. When it needs a major repair they often have to make a quick decision on whether to spend perhaps £1000 on a car that is now virtually worthless. It says much for the appeal of the XM that once they have ownership and use of one that first time round many owners pay up to keep the car. It also means that many owners if they have space hang on to the XM even if replaced hoping to be able to get it repaired at some time. When they eventually sell not only will it have a list of faults, MOT and Tax will be out and it will need trailering away. Most other cars in the same condition would be straight off to the scrap yard and the man with the truck if generous will pay over £25 but most likely say the money he gets will cover his costs. On really upmarket housing areas he may even ask for £30 for his services. So we have got round to my point that currently ebay offers a good chance of £100 or so for a car which would otherwise be virtually worthless. Many people need or want that £100 so a fair number of unservicable XM's appear on bay. With XM's selling for around £100 that means that the best you can hope for on ebay for a T & T XM is going to be £300 to £600 unless the car is exceptional in some way such as one of the last few built or very low mileage with FSH. Ok, I'd still not expect to see it to go for just 200quid though - credit crunch or not!
I was just making the point that you cannot presume EVERYTHING is going to be worthless now! You're not telling me anything I don't know already anyway, any Citroen without an MOT is pretty much worthless but still desirable to someone who'll pay for a good car that needs modest work! Andrew |

I had my finger and my bid on the computer ready, and I watched it roll off! The leak I reckon stopped that going any higher, and I wish Id damm bid on it! I had everything to fix her up, including the glove box catch - although that was minor. Paul -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd
