Nah the BX 16 trs slugomatic had a foam air cleaner element ... The recirculation crankcase recirculation would destroy bits of it.
We had a BX16 trs auto at one stage (horrible) and a BX19tri (GTi with lower spec trim). It was ok, but not at all fast.... The most crippling horrible to sit in car ever, No lower back support, accellerator position from hell .. You had to have your foot hovering off the floor to hold speed.... Most disgusting car i've ever had to drive any distance. I like the XM, but it's hard seats make your @rse end go numb after about an hour. The Xantias quite good, but it's hard seats make your @rse end go hard after about 2hours.... The CX Gti Turbo is PERFECT !!!!! seeya, Shane L. -------------------- Location ... Holly cow .... What on earth were you doing to that poor car... My CX would get close to 25mpg in mixed running (34 highway). The BX 19tri we had would do 41mpg on the highway, and just under 30mpg around town. I'm hoping the XM TD will get at least 43mpg ! seeya, Shane L. -------------------- Location ... I think the key point is not the shape of your backsides, but that of a Cx seat! These are proper
old school Citroen before Peugeot got its clutches into the heart and fibre of what made Citroen tick. If you've not yet driven over any real distance in a Cx you'll not appreciate just how truly comfortable they are; s1 seats are even comfier and more DS like than the shaped slightly firmer s2 ones too! Whilst having a skinny ass, I find an uncomfortable numbness on the firmer Xm seats over long distances too, much the same way as Xantia seats! I tried looking at Bx's as a small Xm as I bought an Xm first, though I still cannot come to a position of comfort in one not in terms of seating, but in vulnerability!! I just feel unsafe in a Bx as it all feels pared back, lightweight and plasticky! This vulnerability isn't helped by the Bx I've got being a 16v'er mind!!! Strange thing is, I feel fine in a Gs which is probably down to the perceived weight of the front crossmember and engine layout. Wow! Without thinking, I've gone from numb backsides, through Cx, Ds Xm and Xantia seats, to Bx and Gs crash protection in one thread! Should've mentioned 2CV crash protection too! Either my concentration levels are shot to hell, I need help, or this general discussion is a good tonic for me! Andrew This post has been edited by Andmcit on October 09, 2008 06:48 pm |

As far as a punchline with the 1.6 carb Bx, did I see the solution was a damn good thrashing and an
Italian tuneup!? That's how I drive everything daily anyhow! Andrew This post has been edited by Andmcit on October 09, 2008 01:49 pm |

Yes the tuneup definitely did the trick
Well the old girl redeemed herself a bit today as I went for a test drive and also topped the petrol up. Those bloody carbs are absolute crap aren't they. Wouldn't it be nice if they just had a plain old S U on! -------------------- Dave.

Glad to see you got it sorted..........cheaply and easerly
Ditch the carbs!!!!!!...........fuel injection is the way to go, no regular tune ups, icing up, dirtying, blocked jets etc etc etc Hope it serves you well anyway. Regards D -------------------- 92 xm 20i prestige auto (modified)R.P 5678

To try and make the BX at least "drivable" without being in agony, the 16tr slugomatic I grabbed a big shifter and bent the living sh!t out of the accellerator pedal towards the floor so I could keep my foot on the floor while driving.
The 19 injected was far, far, far worst. You see to hold 100km/h (speed limit) even after bending sh!t out of the accellerator pedal required the most agonsing "holding of foot in the air".... You'd try holding the pedal with the side of you shoe, but it'd slip constantly.... Really did they even drive a BX before building them ?? It's the most disgusting cripling car I've ever had the misfortune of driving. I even tried a Renault Fuego seat in it... My wife still has back problems to this day from commuting in that damn car. I should have early on just cut the bloody accellerator pedal off, and welded it back on in a comfortable position (or add a a pivot to it part way down the pedal). I really don't know how any of you guys drive them.... In the end I replaced it with a Xantia, these cars the designers obviously drove before building as the accelletor is in a position that allows you to actually drive the car without holding your whole leg off the floor ! The CX's ?? Best seats were the fabric covered seats in the early cars ( pre '80). They look the least comfortable, but in true Citroen fashion, the worst looking seats are the most comfortable. The seats fitted to the later CX's were a comprimise IMO to try and get you sitting on the floor as much as possible to increase the available head room ! If you like CX seats, I challenge you to try the lounge chairs in a DS someday BTW: A quick simple way that will sometime clear the jets is give her a gutful of accellerator and cover the top of the carby with your hand strangling the motor ... It'll pull a heap of vacuum through the jets, hopefully clearing them. seeya, Shane L. This post has been edited by DoubleChevron on October 10, 2008 01:05 am -------------------- Location ... Shane,
I couldnt agree with you more about the Gas pedal positioning! I to had to use the side of my foot etc etc... but I did find the seats comfy... We dont have that many BX's now, most are in the "Fan Club" hands.. I have to say it sounds like Shane was driving a completely different car to my old BX. It was a 19TRS by the way, and went like a rocket (though I did have to replace the carb once in it's 230k lifetime).
I didn't have a problem with the accelerator peddle. Perhaps I just have different sized feet or something. I certainly didn't have to hover my leg in the air to drive in any style. I found the seats to be incredibly comfortable - far more than the XM which whilst fairly comfortable as car seats go, give me a numb bum after 2-3 hours. A number of people I know said the back seats were by far the most comfortable car seats they had ever come across. I used to do a 75 minute commute twice a day in it and never found the seats uncomfortable. It was amusing when driving kids around for our local holiday club that many of them would fight over going in my 17 year old rattly BX rather than the 'cool' Jags and BMWs etc on offer. All because the seats were like sofas. Perhaps there were different seat options in Oz to the UK? The 19 carb was anything but gutless. I could still do a measured 0-60 (indicated) in a little over 8 seconds when it was on 230k and starting to smoke a little. I did like the standing start onto a motorway that I had in my commute - the looks on the drivers of new 'sporty' cars -------------------- 94M XM 2.5 TD VSX Estate RP 6430 Forest Green

19 Carb maybee, but the 16 I felt was bad...
I am always amused by ANY rear seat passengers that ALWAYS say "Wow! Its like a sofa, and comfy!!"" P -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd

Seriously guys.... You people gotta try a DS ... infact just sit in the back seat in one, you don't even need to drive it !!!
The BX's out here mostly got a horrible scratchy fabric, shitty "rottary knob" type back adjusters with no lower back support, combined with the accellerator pedal they were horendous. Apparantlly the 16valvers were vastly better !! seeya, Shane L. -------------------- Location ... Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.

16V BX had great seats, good driving position, great go and great handling. I've owned 2, separated by a CX GTI Turbo then the XM 24V that Paul now owns. There's always been something about Citroen's high performance variants. The compromises seem to be better judged, at least until the Xantia came along. They all strike me as a bit numb compared to earlier cars.
