Hi All
Due to an impending divorce (not mine) I have to make room for another car that a friend was storing for me by this week end. My divorce will come if SWMBO realises that I have also bought another two 2.5's in the last fortnight as I have only come clean so far on the one I have collected. There will need to be a lot of car shuffling. After a lot of heart searching I have decided that the immobile 2.0 TCT Estate (It was destined to be converted to a 2.5) buried in the far side of the unit will go first. Unfortunately I need to bring it out in bits as it is surrounded by engines and subframes etc. Started last night so front end and half the drivers side now off. Anyone want rads, wing, drivers door bumper etc will need to speak quickly as storage is a real problem. Hi John, is the 2.0 TCT engine removed/available and in good health as I need one for a
dead Activa? No worries if not as Rodders has one though that's still in a largely intact car working AFAIK... Could you not save the main radiator and cooling hoses or is space THAT tight as I'm sure one of mine will need them soon? Certainly my new 2.5 needs a rad soon... Andrew |

Hi Andrew
The engine is not out but will be soon and will then be a problem as I need to move a stack of 6 subframes to use the engine crane. Was running well around 120k from memory. Car had just had the head gasket done ok then the owner gave up on it when a garage renewed clutch cable that went wrong after a month. Air and water Rads and the hoses will get put to one side. Today wings, bonnet, bumper and doors need a real sponser or will go. Tomorrow a bit more depending on where I attack next. Black leather interior, door mirrors, winders, suspension and hydraulics I will keep. The red 2.5 Estate will follow this one so there will be a job lot of bits for you and I might just find corner for them all until you can take them. Which of the two water rads do you need for your 2.5? John This post has been edited by xmexclusive on October 01, 2008 12:30 pm -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Just a note to to avoid any misapprehension.
The Onyx remains that I have are only complete under the bonnet (rest is fire damaged). It's manual, has complete service history from new (113700m) I have deliberately kept it turnkey so that it can be evaluated. I do have an engine crane should it be needed. Like everyone else here I would far rather see these mechanicals rehomed on the Forum but if no-one is on the uptake I shall be forced to offer it to a wider market which probably means it ending up with the "baked bean can exhaust" brigade which would be a shame. So if anyone is interested in everything underbonnet from a Series I Onyx Turbo Manual (most seem to be auto I think) please get in touch, although Andrew, you still have first shout. I also have a CT auto (180k) which no longer runs due to being burnt up to the bulkhead, but if anyone wants bits from it its all there mechanically/electrically from the firewall (how apt a term !! ) forward. Rodders. -------------------- Rodders,

John/Rodders.
Thank you both for your replies - I've been distracted this evening to reply properly sooner. Damned unusual immediate puncture on the way home this evening in the middle if nowhere and without a wheelbrace (or paddle!!) ![]() ![]() literally skewered the sidewall of the tyre and made a right mess/racket catching the surrounding bodywork - very nearly new Michelin totally written off. Yes, I know it's a Xantia, and YES, it's on high as I thought the old driving on 3 wheels gag would be worth a go! I'll literally have a sleep on my imminent plans/possibilities and movements and no doubt (hopefully) post a response tomorrow (or later today as it is now). In my ignorance about 2.5's I didn't realise there was a clutch of radiators although a reference seen here on the forum of there being two does ring a distant chime; guess I thought it referred to autobox rad but of course I know know there weren't any 2.5 auto's - doh! The rad that looks a bit iffy is the only/main one I can see across the main 'usual' position on looking into the engine bay!! Andrew |

Ouch Andrew.... look on the bright side, at least it wasn't pissing with rain
I had a similar thing with an Astra once, two week old tyre too. I got into it at work, it was fine, I drove home without incident (or so I thought). I got out of the car in the drive and heard a Citroen-esqe ssssssssss sound, which would have been great had it not been for the fact this was a Vauxhall. Upon investigation I found a huge jagged slash on the sidewall of the tyre on the drivers side back wheel, never did figure out how it happened in transit, but I imagine I must've hit some item similar to yours (what the hell IS that thing BTW? I kid you not, it DID start raining (albeit half heartedely) just as I was clambering around in my
clean on cream chinos looking under the rear bumper checking to see if I'd been stupid enough to leave the spare out of the rear cradle as I'd managed to leave the brace in another car; usual thing with several cars, for immediate convenience you end up robbing Peter to pay Paul as the old saying goes! Looks like a farming impliment of torture and is quite large, rusty and sharp; il take pics of the stricken tyre later... what a faff on this whole caper this evening was! Andrew |

I'm sick and tired (no pun intended!) with the parlous state of the road now: seemingly every three
months its a totalled tyre with either a killer pothole in the dark, or an Allan key, nail or screwdriver slicing through a good tyre! the nearside and dug into the sidewall leaving the shank to clatter against the wing/ rear bumper. Andrew |

John regarding the estate, do you happen to know if the grey ribbon type cables supplying the rear light clusters are the same as the ones on a saloon?
If so, I would interested in both of those. One of mine had very irritatingly developed a loose / intermittent connection right where the wiring enters the plug, and it doesn't seem possible to open or repair the plug without breaking it. I don't know where the ribbon cable begins in the boot, or if it plugs in somewhere, but even if you just cut it off as far down as possible this would be fine, I can crimp it on to my cable. This, all assuming that the estate and saloon ones are the same! though I can't see why not, same connections even if the clusters are a different shape. If that's possible just let me know what you would want for both Much appreciated. I know what you mean Andrew, bit of a joke when you consider how you get financially raped at every turn for the privlege of having your car on the wonderfully maintained roads.
God, don't get me started on that one! Is there much damage to the body? Always the way when you have clean clothes on / need to be somewhere isn't it. I hope you didn't miss anything too important! How did you sort it in the end? P.S I've also done the missing jack / wheel brace thing if its any consolation.... Hi Ciaran
Estate cables are the same just a bit longer. Will save a set or find some in the heap of recovered cables. The bad news for you is that they are long as in the connectors for the other ends being alongside the front seats. John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Thanks John, much appreciated.
I presume the cables just run along the body trim, behind the kick panels etc? That shouldn't be toooo hard to get to.... Ciarán -------------------- '95 XM 2.1TD VSX Hatch: RP 6429. Rare green ;-)

Hi All
Just a note to say that the bits from the Blue Estate are now going to scrap as I take them off. Doors and all my spare bumpers have gone already. Could not even take the time to weigh the metal in. Sorry but to keep the landlord in a reasonable frame of mind I just cannot store any more stuff and still need to make room to get another car inside in the next fortnight so even bits I want may have to go as all the SORN cars are now full.
