Hi
I've got a question about the trim on the passenger side A pillar on my XM. The gap between the A pillar and door on my drivers side is tight - a couple of mm's when closed. However it's about 5mm on my passenger side. It looks to me like the trim attached to the side of the windscreen has lifted. Has anyone seen this before and sorted it? It's not a major problem it just causes a little more wind noise when on the motorway and sitting in the passenger seat, but I'd like to sort it. Cheers Tony |

Hi Tony
The windscreen side trim cover strip snap fits onto a thin steel section running parrallel to the front of the door. There is a U shaped serrated hard plastic strip that fits over the steel section and into a slot in the cover moulding. This U strip acts as the snap clamp when the cover strip is banged into place. I have found that the U section becomes brittle with age and then broken on windscreen replacement. Do not know if it is obtainable as I have always had enough for my needs but window fitters never have it and reuse the bits they can recover sometimes with less than perfect results or a dose of black glue. From your description I suspect that one of your sidecovers is thinking about parting company with the car. If so it might be better to recover it now rather that look for it later on the M25. I have had a look at the photo now and suggest that you first try relocking it into place by banging it down with the palm of your hand or a black rubber mallet.
