Sophie, you are beginners at this taxing game!
Our bunch of thieving, self serving politicians (all parties are the same) are the real deal. Current rate is 69.9% on petrol (gasoline) and 67.3% on diesel. And they were intending to put another 2p a litre on in September but thought better of it. They actually levy fuel duty on the fuel, then add VAT at 17.5% on the fuel and the fuel duty. Hi Sophie
I shift to N when in traffic, it makes the engine rev 850~900rpm instead of 750~850rpm. The police in USA have their cars equiped with the "idle switch", they never turn engine off, instead they use this feature to make the engine rev up to 1100rpm, what makes lubrication, cooling and A/C more efficient.
