Hi guys,

well I just put the door trims on ... I couldn't figure out why the drivers inside lock knob never engaged properly.... Well I figured it out as soon as i looked at the back door for assembly.... There is a tiny little plastic bracket in the door lock knob you must press down locking the door lock knob on, this has the tiny catch broken off it...

Now I just fitted both door trims to the back clipped the door locks on ......... and NOW I realise my error. I've pressed the door lock knobs on with the door unlocked.... So the door knobs are now permanantly locked way down in the "locked" position, but there "unlocked". I can't access the little clips to remove them as it's burried into the door trim in the locked position.

I'm now stuck with two doors that can't be locked.... What a bloody stupid way of fitting door lock knobs .... sigh.... So how do I get these b@stards back off without smashing them so the car can be locked sad.gif wacko.gif

seeya,
Shane L.

If I remember correctly remove the plastic trim around the locking knob hole and this should give you sufficient access to release the clip. I can't remember how that bit of trim is best removed though. Only other thing you can do is insert a flat blade screwdriver down between the trim and the knob at the front and prize the knob up. That will likely wreck the plastic insert gripper inside the knob though.

Hi Shane

Assich is right that you can lever up the Mk2 knob surrounds but not the Mk1 ones (Citroen design change for the sake of change). You should then be able to see that the knob has two small holes in the front face near the bottom. The top one will contain the lock/release tag of the inner plastic clamp. Use a small flat bladed electrical screw driver to ease the tag back out of the hole and downwards and this should release the clip. Tag needs to be set in the lower hole to reuse the lock button. You may find the inner clamp has lost some of its grip and if so wrap a bit of insulation tape around the top of the rod to pad things out a bit. Lock knob inners can be got from Citroen in a pack of 10 part number listed in another thread as I remember.

I got so annoyed with finding cars with the knob either loose or missing that I bought a few. Any one waving cash about - think £4 apiece plus post?
The Haynes manual is very precise and helpful on how to replace them.

Could do with some of these - do you know what's the part number is John?
I'm working on the basis that you'll know where to look on the forum!! biggrin.gif

Why 10? Do many Xm's have 10 doors!? Guess I'll have to buy two packs...

Hi Andrew

Description is: Moulded clip for door locking knob.
Part Number is: 95 654 096.

Reference: Dealer News Flash XM 14 No. 4 dated 2 January 1990.

My guess is that Dealers were breaking these door knob clips from day one of XM sales and needed a cheap fix hence the packets of ten. The window winder wires could not have been failing at this early stage and I doubt it was the door locks. So were dealers changing seats and upgrading door trim to get a car sale from the stock on hand?

Andrew

They will put them on back order then after 3 months their system will automatically void the order unless it is manually renewed by the dealer. They did this to me with another item that I had paid for up front then had the termidity to ask for the extra for the price increase when it finally came in. When I argued they told me that I had ordered a dealer only item (special tool) and I could take it or leave it (without a refund) and that in accordance with Citroen's rules they would no longer order me any special items.

This does smack of a very bloody minded parts manager; have these guys ever heard
of good customer service - no wonder people's feedback always slates Citroen in the
satisfaction index surveys. Who'd want to buy a £35k C6 to be treated like dirt by some
moron in the Prats Department.

Thanks guys,

that must the most stupid design that lock knob clip... I've got 'em all working now .... How damn annoying can it be rolleyes.gif mad.gif

I have also fixed the incredibly frustrating unbelievably antagonizing clicking indicator relay by dismantling and building up the stop position on the switch contact with epoxy glue. Damn that was annoying, 3 clicks a second constantly, you *might* be able to stop it for a short time by gently easing in the right turn direction... but not often ... I'll post some piccies of the dismantled switch, but it's basically the same as the Xantia swtich I had to fix after it went up in smoke.
