Hi Rowan

Am currently in the process of cutting up a 2.5TD ORG 6591. It did not have cruise but I suspect that it is late enough to have the wiring. Am taking digital photos as I go. Dash/engine/wiring/front half of chassis are all still in situ at the moment. I guess it will be another 3 weeks to complete though I need the space to get the next one in (2.5TD ORG 6820 with cruise). I will try to record as much as I can of the cruise wiring. If you want to take a look (near Winchester) then email me after my next weeks holiday.

Regards

XMexc

I doubt I will get a chance to come by Winchester to look, but I would be interested in seeing any photos. I'll email you in a few weeks if I haven't got anywhere by then (I'm unlikely to get the time to look much before then anyway).

Hi Western xm

Glad to have been of help.
Why are you going to scrap a 24v?
The XM Maffia will let a contract on you when they hear!
It seems to me that everyone is trying to preserve Mk1's particularly V6 24valves.
So I have decided to preserve a 2.5TD Mk2.

Enjoy your 2.5

Regards

HI guys, i must have the wrong end of the stick here because my car has a totally seperate box at the front of the car that operates the cruise which I imagine wouldnt be fitted to a car that didnt come with cruise. Also my stalk and way of operation looks completely different to the one you describe and indeed the one in my owners manual. There is no dash light or switch and the actual stalk looks different.... Strange!

My cruise has also stopped working for some reason also.... bugger!!!

Steve

Are you talking about the 2.0 Exclusive in your sig? This will have a different system.

The reason it can be retro fitted on a 2.5 (assuming your wiring loom isn't missing a wire like mine sad.gif ) is that the 2.5 is drive by wire. i.e. the ECU controls everything including the throttle (the peddle is not connected to the engine, but to a potentiometer which is wired to the ECU). Therefore the software and all the control mechanisms are already there to regulate the throttle in order to keep the speed constant - you just need to connect the controls to the ECU for it to do it all for you.

I believe that more standard engines require various other bits of equipment to regulate the mechanical throttle. Not sure how it works exactly though.

Odd that your stalk/dash switch etc is different. Has a previous owner replaced them in order to fix it (or try to fix it)?

I presume that the newer cars (C5 etc) go more along the electronic lines of the 2.5 as I have read that cruse can be retro fitted to some C5s almost as easily (but you have to have Citroen turn on the 'feature' in the computer by plugging it in and charging you lots...)

Hi Steve

A photo of your different cruise switch would be interesting. The PUG 406 uses a similar switch fitted in the same position and mounting screws but it has a fatter knob with what I think is a built in equivalent to the XM dash switch on the end of the knob. It is also multiplexed so has less control wires than the XM column switch. I got one the other day from a scrap car as it should be possible to retro fit one to an XM.
At some stage I suspect Citroen changed the 2.1 production from a manual wire throttle to the 2.5 type fly by wire. Has your car got the 2.5 type rotary potentiometer mounted behind the engine compartment ECU box?

Regards

Just as a pricing update, I've ordered the parts from a local dealership and it's cost just shy of £62.

QUOTE (rowanmoor @ May 13 2006, 18:10 PM)
QUOTE (xmexclusive @ May 13 2006, 14:35 PM)
I would not start rewiring until I was certain I had tried every other eventuality.

My thoughts exactly.

I checked the switch with a multimeter, and it seems to be working correctly. In the off state, pin 1 is conntect to pin 3, but not pin 2. In the on state pin 1 is connected to pin 2 and not pin 3. Pin 3 is the one that is not connected to any wiring, so that all makes sense (as long as that is how the connector is wired of course).

I presume that the 'on' light is simply switched on from the power on pin 1 when the switch is on. That would all seem to backup your thoughts that it is probably a fuse assuming the wiring for the switch is as I am guessing.

I did a quick visual inspection of the fuse box earlier and did not see any that looked blown, but I have not checked them properly. I also haven't put the meter on pin 1 of the wiring to check for a voltage yet.

I guess the question is - is pin 1 the 'live' on the switch, and which fuse does it come from?

Hi,

I'm trying to fit the cruise on my 2.5, but have only the lever close to the steering wheel. I'm wondering which pins should be connected on the wire in the dash to turn it on. smile.gif

You write that pins 1 and 2 is connected on the switch when it is turned on. Does this also correspond to the numbers at the connector in the car?

Hi!

When I mounted the CC on my 2.5 -96 it first did'nt work, the yellow lamp in the panel switch did'nt go on either.
It was the fuse to the brakelights! blink.gif
I dont know for how long I had been driving around without breaklights...

A bien tôt,
