"Guess everyone's Xm is currently being a paragon of reliability, nobody has seen another Xm and there are no other interesting anecdotes to share with our similarly Xm aflicted cyberfriends!!" You must be joking There's a "chuffing" sound from the clutch area when standing still in neutral which disappears as soon as the clutch is depressed, I've still not gotten round to tidying up the bodywork (been promising myself to do it for two years now) and I still haven't found a way to get my rev counter to work after my mechanical fuel pump swap. Did I mention also that I also have to find out why my fuel guage only works 10% of the time, the doorlocks work only sometimes and the gearchange is positively agricultural... Problem is, I'm currently fixing my wife's ford (made from monkey metal) and my son's peugeot still isn't going anywhere fast I too hope this forum can continue way into the future so's I can get my daily fix from it and words from the wise when needed. Hi Colin
I must admit that my green estate, the one I use for all the high mileage trips, hasn't broken down on me in over 70k miles, although I probably shouldn't say that as we are off to France on Thursday! The black hatch that I bought for spares in February, is now on the road, having fitted a new clutch thrust bearing, spheres, window mechanism, battery and numerous other bits and pieces - it was just to good to scrap. That had an intermittent fuel gauge which is the last thing I repaired, it was dry joints on the back of the instrument panel connectors, you could actually see the cracks around the pins on the back of the panel, resoldered them all and its OK now. The suspension ECU on the estate has just packed up, I fitted doides in it a few months ago and its been fine, but its stopped working altogether now, so I am going to borrow the one out of the black car for while we are away and find a replacement when we get back. It seems for the present the forum is safe, and XMs will soon be classic cars, so we hope something can be formulated. Peter. -------------------- Used to have:

Peter,
Is that wise to borrow out of a functioning car, are you certain its not the car thats blown the ECU.. I can send you a donar ECU if you would prefer not to risk blowing another one.. I can send you one anyway if you wish. I have a couple of H3's from S2 cars here... Hope you have a good trip. Im sure it will be COMPLETELY trouble free Rgds Paul -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd

Hi Paul
Its OK I have tried a double swap and I know what the problem with the ecu is, the 12v initail energising supply is there but no 1Khz holding signal. The car works perfectly OK with the other Ecu in it. I have fitted diodes to both of them, the one in the green car several months ago, I tried replacing them but that wasn't the problem this time although it cured it all right last time. Thanks for the offer, but I will sort it out when we come home. I wont destroy 'your car' Peter. -------------------- Used to have:

Not that it appears to be going anywhere according to Chris' latest statement, but if he were unable to continue hosting it, that's easily enough sorted. I have the resources here to do it, as do several others who have posted.
Even if the worst happened, it can always be created from scratch, forums are not difficult things to setup, though that would be a shame to loose all the the material that's been painstakingly posted over the past few years. In the meantime, why worry, hopefully things will continue as they are Ciarán -------------------- '95 XM 2.1TD VSX Hatch: RP 6429. Rare green ;-)

Its not the setting up, its the coupious amounts of info on the self help files that would need saving / transfering accross... There is quite a lot of usefull things on the site..

Burt Chris did say it was safe - at least for the time being.

So we're back here again in the same boat with the same thread of conversation
so a renewed discussion would fit here better than seen elsewhere. I appreciate that the signs are there for rectification and positive progress is being made and really have only posted here for want of a new thread on the new posts list!!! Andrew |
