Every no and then I get a deep goan from the front of the car once I have switched off the engine. Lasts a few seconds then stops. The car doesn't seem to be moving downwards at the time. Doesn't seem to happen every time and not always straight after switching off the engine, could be a minute or so after sometimes. Was immediately after this morning though. Last night I replaced a couple of seals causing leaks. The O ring at one of the pump outlets and the other on the steering feed at the pressure sensor. It's a 6+2 pump. Any ideas?

Hi Assich
Could be a stalled electrovalve, mine done it for a while giving the same symptoms and random timing as yours very hard to prove though because it didnt do it for long enough to get out and have a look and find it for a few months untill it did it as i was getting out of the car. Mine sounded like a highly unbalanced cooling fan running at high speed and gave slight vibration through the vehicle which could be felt when stationary, sound right???? Mine has been doing this for at least a year! After longish journey (greater than 10 miles) switch off engine and then after say 20 seconds you get a groan from the drivers side of the engine - sounds like it comes from the area behind the wheel arch.
the groan lasts about 10 to 15 seconds! Never thought it was the electrovalve I'll have to get on my hands and knees next time. Spare Mk11 electrovalve anyone? Cheers Steve -------------------- 96P XM 2.0Turbo Exclusive Green

Sounds to me like a minor leak at the vaccum pump which is in this location . One of my XMs did it for years - never did anything about it! -------------------- Xantia 2 litre HDi Saloon X reg 1999

Hi all,
mine hasnt done it since i ran flushing fluid in the hydraulics so it may have been dirty or it could be it just hasnt done it recently, but, mine only ever done it in the rain so could be electrical. Also mine is a mk1 and so has only the one electrovalve positioned roughly under the drivers footwell, easy to see and remove, you both have mk2 cars and have two seperate e/v's (one front, one back) built into the hydractive blocks which are mounted to the n/s of the transmision tunnel at the front and central above the rear silencer and it's respective heat shield at the back, and that is as much as i can help because i have never owned or worked on a mk2 and am not sure if the whole hydractive block must be replaced or if the e/v can be removed and cleaned/ inspected/ renewed seperatly. Sorry i cant be any more help, George may be able to point you in the right direction though, he knows his hydraulics. Techmanagain, do petrol xm's have vaccum pumps??? i am right in thinking Assich has a V6 and Steve has a 2L turbo?? or do you lot have derv's that arent in the signature? Anyway, good luck gents D This post has been edited by dean on September 12, 2008 06:02 pm -------------------- 92 xm 20i prestige auto (modified)R.P 5678
