changing the steel heater pipe is simple enough, but a bit involved.

Basically you have to disconnect the wiring loom off the ecu and inlet manifold (take lots of notes of the connections, or label well) and then disconnect the air intake and any hoses, then take the manifold off (4 bolts 11 or 12mm). Note there is a small water hose from each pipe that connects to the underside of the throttle body.

Then you can get at the single bolt that holds the pipe in place and withdraw it from the Vee - it connects to a cross-pipe channel or back of the water pump.

Might be worth changing the thermostat too - means taking the LH top engine mount off to get at the housing which is hidden under the cross-brace on the vee.

Change the O-ring seal where the left-side of the pipe plugs into as well as the pipe and refit it. I'd suggest replace both pipes at the same time, why do this twice.
Refit the manifold - no seal kit needed as it has O-rings for this purpose.
Reconnect the hoses etc.
Noting the correct wiring connections, connect up the loom.

Flush the system thoroughly and refill with coolant - but please use a good antifreeze on the final fill, you may not need it from a cold point-of-view, but you DO want the anti-corrosion properties or rust will kill those expensive pipes again soon! Keep the antifreeze as part of the servicing or it will lose the inhibit qualities over time.

Also note - be gentle with the wiring - it doesn't age well and can give problems even with care. Secure the part that connects under the LHM tank with cable ties to prevent it working loose, worth cleaning all the contacts too.

oh yes, also the system is self bleeding on the V6, so top up slowly with the car level, or header tank side higher and you should be ok

The previous owner just forgot the car, as beeing a rich guy with 4 or 5 at home, he left her at his last commercial address, an expensive building with 2 parking floors. I've been there once and when leaving the lot saw some dust over a XM, immediatly I though I'll buy this car!!!
After some research found the owner is a french guy who left the country, as we have a renault plant here, it was supposed to be resonable. The name of the owner is french but he's brasilian as me, after some more inquires I found his address and got there, he was traveling to europe!!! left a message and wben back we talked. Some more phone calls and we finally met. The point was the price, he didnt any ideia, I mentioned prices found at the internet, about 13.000 reais our currency=5440Euros and he agreeded. I need to explain you that cars in brazil are very expensive, for example the new picasso costs about 48k here and a golf 35k. I own a cherokee sport 98 that's more or less 11k euros.

prices here are very diferent from your country, imported goods are very expensive and labor's cheap, for 2 euros I had her washed outside w/o dry. Interior is so clean I didnt even vacuum!!! newspaper at the floor from march 2004, can you believe?

Whats that blank plug at coil? is there any missing wire?

Today had injectors cleaned, was really dirt. What else do I need to do? fluids and air filter are ok, but gas one, where's located? can I add one near the engine?

Thanks for the tip. I use mobil antifreeze and its very good. By the way how much means expensive for the pipes? Here in brazil prices for parts, expecially citroen ones are ridiculous, for the parking light dealer asked 50 euros. Any good site to look at?

There is a fuel filter. If it has never been replaced this is the time, but on this model it's a bit trouble some. It's hidden somewhere underneath the rear of the vehicle, on the right hand side of the fuel tank.
I found access to it on my '95 V6-12 XM (same as yours) almost impossible, but on my '00 V6-24 it is easy (doesn't help you)

Is something missing in your engine bay?

Nothing missing here. The blank plug is obsolete. Don't worry about it

No worries, its just a second take off point for the coil... theres nothing missing!

Whats the ATF? Dexron III? how many liters? still witout manual. Supposed to be under passg seat, but it is not.

The handbook won't be found under the seat; as previously mentioned, I believe if
you look at the lower dashboard panels that unclip and drop down, one will have a
section molded into the lid that retains the handbook document pouch.

Mind, having the handbook still won't say what the fluid for the transmission fluid is!!
I've just checked mine...

Be very careful which DEXRON you buy!

can't remember how much the cooling system pipe are here as I managed to get a couple of good ones of another engine in a citroen breaker for £30 the pair

Think they are around the £100 mark though, only from Citroen, of course.

Not sure if they will export, but Edwards & Son in Billericay Essex UK do have a lot of parts as they break Citroens. If not, I could maybe buy and ship on to you, might even be able to supply some parts myself ( as may others here) as I have a garage full of S1 V6 parts.

Don't have a spare for that light though unfortunately. You might be able to make a new lens by bending some perspex/acrylic sheet, which can be bent/curved with gentle heat. Was thinking to try this myself one day, maybe with a light blue tinted sheet to match the colour of the car

I think your car has the 4HP18 autobox. If so, the correct fluid is Dexron 2, NOT NOT NOT Dex 3! You cannot drain the box completely, a couple of litres remains in the torque converter. Under the gearbox you will find a plate held on with three bolts, undo these and you will drain down between 3 and 4 litres. The filter is in there and there should also be a hexagonal magnet which is held in raised portions of the plate. Sealingis done by an o-ring if I remember correctly. Refilling is done through the gearbox dipstick hole, I use an old ATF plastic bottle with a pipe attached and the bottom cut off which I use as a funnel.
