trying to get to the bottom of my engine management light woes

took the xm out, only to find that the stop light suddenly appear

one deep sigh and a open bonnet and an lhm splattered engine later

found that the rubber section of the high pressure feed from the pump to the accumulator had split

and citroen want £100 for a new one huh.gif ohmy.gif

so does any one know of a reliable fix for the high pressure rubber hose

or maybe someone has a usable second hand one lying around

one miffed charlie

Hi Charlie

I wasn't aware that there was a rubber section in the high pressure hose. Can you show us a pic?

Second to Peter. Rubber hose is the intake path from the reservoir, whereas the HP path is a steel pipe.

Maybe means the rubber 'dump' return from the regulator to the LHM tank? it's a classic for splitting.

I've known a flat accumulator sphere cause that. The suspension sends shock waves through the system and its the first thing to go.

try Plaeides - they can make up a metal-rubber HP hose from what I heard last time I spoke to them, probably a lot less than Cit will charge.

As mentionned already - is the accum sphere ok as pipe hammer could have helped it fail.

Dave

ill try and a get a pic in the next couple of days

its a 1/4 inch metal pipe from the pump which then leads into the rubber section, and then back into metal, then into the accumalator

in fact the other metal pipe that follows my burst one down from the pump, in between the engine and the radiator, has the same rubber mid section

and i know its a 1/4 inch cause ive been talking to some hydaulic firms about new piping

but they only have a 6mm olive/coupling and not 1/4 inch

which is a bit puzzling because why would a french car use an imperial measure

but ill try plaides and do some phoning on monday

and new accumlator sphere fitted a month ago

Are you sure that it is a rubber section and not just a sleeve?

ive taken the piece off for repair and the rubber section has blown a hole

i can only assume that citroen fitted this flexible piece to aid fitting/removal

cause if it was rigid it would be difficult to work with

anyways will take a pic and prove it to all you non believers out there tongue.gif

am sourcing some 1/4 inch fitting and hydraulic pipe for the repair

Here is a picture of my 2.1TD looking down between the radiator and gearbox. The car has the 6+2 HP pump with a rubber suction pipe from LHM reservoir and two steel output pipes.
The semicircular rubber HP hose in the picture goes from the gearbox mounted pressure regulator area to the fixed steel piping attached to the subframe. Its's purpose is no doubt to provide a flexible vibration free connection. It might be the steering feed but I'm not sure.

I looked for this hose on the Citroen Service parts website but couldn't find it.

Ken

PS Have you considered taking the old hose to one of the outfits that make up new hydraulic hoses to order and ask if they can re-use the metal end connections to make up a replacement?.

as I mentionned before, check in with Pliaedes, at least you'll be sure that the replacement will be capable of handling the working pressures and suited to LHM use.

Alternatively, you gould get a new cupro-nickel pipe made up, fitting would be easier than a pre-formed steel one as you can bend it to shape as you go.
