Hi Guys,

Last week I found the carpet in the hatch saturated with water (and the reverse sensor box full of water as it's under the carpet in the corner mad.gif . I thought I'd managed to fill the hatch with water when I hosed the car down with no tail lights..... Only I've just gone out and found it FULL of water again ... I don't even think it's rained recently (but it must have). I'm assuming if the back of the cars facing down hill, blocked sunroof drains are filling the hatch with water. Does anyone know the fix ??

thanks
Shane L.

Oh yeah,

where exactly are the sunroof drains... I can't see them anywhere. I'm assuming they are around the rear bumper area as it didn't leak before i fitted the towbar and rear bumper ! (well I don't think it did either way !).

seeya,

Hi Shane.

The rear drains run into the back wheelarches hidden by the wheelarch inner plastic liners each side:
it's possible you've managed to squash one working in this area. When you look carefully, you'll see
them - they're quite wide and black rubber. Does the headlining get wet at the back towards the
tailgate as the drain pipes can also get splits just before where they run into the trims lining the rear
pillars?

Another favorite is water through the roof interior lighting console above the gear lever: Ciaran has
recently discovered a leak in the main tray from around the securing fastener holding the roof motor.

Thanks Guys,

strangely it's the rear left corner just infront of the tail light that is saturated ! I didn't notice the roof being wet anywhere, the carpet is soaking though !

Hi Shane

Check that the tail light assemblies in the rear wing have all their rubber gaskets correctly in place. Can actually let in a lot of water particularly from washing the car with a hose. The foam on the underside of the boot liner can suck up an amazing amount of water, so much so that you think you have dried out the affected area only next time you look it is wet again. In the end I found that the only way is to take the whole foam liner out and dry it. Running for a while with the bare chassis in the boot should let you work out when and how the water is getting in.

John

As many of you guys, I also have problems with wather in the boot. It's a pain, cause it fogging up the rear window. Couldn´t the seals be replaced with silicone sealant instad Dean?

I must admidt, that I haven't done much to find the source to the wather leak, but I suspect the rear ligths or det rubber seal between the tailgate and the body to be the source.

Hi Shans

The problem is any water from the roof or tailgate that runs around the hatch opening (and there can be a lot) will be funneled straight onto the lights and if there is a poor seal most of that water will find its way into the boot. Im sure its just hardening of the seals and if the lights arent refitted in exactly the same place they wont be doing their job, all i did with mine is silicone between the seal and the body of the car and all has been well since.................fingers crossed biggrin.gif

Hi Guys,

well I ended up with the front of the car on jackstands, with the sunroof opened I poured water into it, and watched it drain freely from both rear drain pipes... None in the boot ... Hmmm...

Poured water down ontop of the rear light for a while and it started to seep into the boot... BINGO !!

Pulled the light out and tried sealing it twice... 2nd time I ran some gasket goo around it's seal... Still leaks ?? It can't be the light as the gasket goo left marks both body and light side showing it was sealing right around.... Damn it ... Our with the lights, off with the bumper, the plastic crushable bit ... All the body plugs and bungs were there, the bung I had run the towbar plug and reverse sensor wiring through was well sealed up (I was actually thinking deisel exhaust stench getting into the car, not water.

On bolting it back down I noticed the plastic harness I had the wires running back into the car with cracks ever so gently open along it's slit as the bumper gets bolted down ........ We i'll be damned, I thought I was doing the right thing running grommets and plastic harness. The water flows down behind the bumper, into the wiring harness, this guides it (like a garden hose) down into the boot of the car ohmy.gif unsure.gif So I taped the harness up with insulation tape, and ran some silicon sealer along it's seem. She seems all dry now !

seeya,
Shane L.
