Well I've tried to paint the passenger mirror twice already .... It's the only thing the car is needing before it can be fully assembled....

I asked on autobody101, and apparantly it's not uncommon for paint to crinkle up on plastic like it has twice for me.... Apparantly if I "dust" some base onto it, it wouldn't crinkle up ?

Well I tried priming the mirror.... I'll be damned, I dusted a few coats of primer on .... No wrinkling...

Followed by a nice wet full coat of primer ..... :chair::chair::cussing: I'm bloody pleased this wasn't a problem with something big like one of the bumpers !

No more messing around.... I spent ages sanding every last damn bit of paint off the mirror (before I smashed it in frustration) and painted it .... I've just refitted it to the car now.

Today when I was parked up next to the C5 .... I noticed a small run in the rear quater panel... Hmmm, I'll fix that tonight ... Just went out there, rubbed the run out and went straight through the clear   Bugger me, there must have been no paint there... Now thinking about it, I had clear access to the whole car to paint ........................ except one bit where the basin is bolted to the wall. Guess where this exact spot was rolleyes.gif

Guess who's about to find if they can blend a 5cent sized bit of paint back in. I'm thinking a dusting of base, then a small amount of clear out from the spot. (right in the middle of the indentation down the panel).

This should be fun, I'll do it tomorrow night if I can smile.gif All I need to do is sikaflex some badging and the skuttle sides on and I'm done. I'll need to take some piccies of the completed car .... soon...

seeya,
Shane L.

Well I told SWMBO I'm going to have to respray where I sanded through ... "Yeah right, you did it deliberately because you wanted a project" Damn, like I don't have enough to bloody do now sad.gif sigh .....

Anyway

I gave the area a good hard scuff... I you can see I cut through to the base there... It's a high solids clear.... There should be HEAPS of clear there with two coats, yet I cut straight through.

The back corner of the car was parked in here up against the basin.... I must not have put any clear there ... without realising ....

As you can see she's all done except the badging and skuttle end panels....

All masked up ... I'll try my detail gun, as the paint is so fresh the clear should lay down and blend in no problem I imagine  If there is any problems (eg: detail gun with small 0.8 tip not being able to lay the clear down). I'll move the masking out and reclear the whole panel. Should only be 20minutes work. But what a PITA ! Just when I thought the car was finally done.

Well I dusted a bit of colour over the bit I rubbed through ... I sprayed some clear over the middle....

Just as I thought, today when I went out there and hit it with same paper, there was a blend line where the clear finished (I wonder if you should spray reducer over this to "melt" the blend in  .... Oh well bugger it .... I scuffed sh!t out of it with 800 and done what I should have done in the first place ....

Getting close now... I'm just waiting for the sikaflex to turn up so I can glue the skuttle end caps on, and some of the trim down smile.gif
