Hi all
My 2.5 TD is giving me more woes unsure.gif . I have been informed that my Hydraulic pump being knackered was the cause of green fluid over the alternator belt side of the engine.

Would anyone have a spare or failing that tell me how easy a job it is to change if I were to attempt it myself?wacko.gif

Cheers

Neil

Hi Neil,

No first hand experience of this myself but I've read a few articles on the fracturing of the delivery pipe from the pump. Is it definitely the pump? Could it be the pipe? With the inner wheel arch lining removed it should be reasonably visible maybe with a torch. You might have to pressure wash it to clear away all the crud so you can see the leak properly.

If it ends up being the pump, I know someone with a spare who won't need it. But it does depend on the exact model - I believe there's a couple of choices.

Let me know what you find and if you need a pump.

Cheers

Hi Noz

After much fumbling and cursing with spanners and sockets and allan keys sad.gif in fading light, we concluded that the pump may well be at fault as we found it was leaky underneath somewhere.
Tomorrow I shall try to remove the pump entirely and have a proper look - a friend of mine can weld any leaks if need be.

I did take some snaps of the pump so if I do need a spare I will post a pic. How much would your friend want for it?

Cheers

Neil

The diesel one usually has a smaller pully (lower revs) I dont know how easy they are to change over. I have had the outlet pipe fracture several times, usually due to a flat accumulator sphere.

biggrin.gif Yay, the pic worked!

I've managed to get the pump off without breaking anything else and can give you all some more details.

The pulley is approx 110mm diameter. The pump is stamped (nearest the pulley) with J3X, and the end of the pump (furthest from the pulley) is stamped 092735 or it could be 755, it's not very clear. unsure.gif

As you may be able to tell from the pic, it has 6 "plugs" around it, 5 would be undone using Torx sockets, the 6th is a bolt (these are visible in the pic). It was difficult to tell what was wrong with it apart from there is a leak somewhere, and even with it off the car I still can't tell! wacko.gif

I think my best bet is to replace the pump and perhaps send the old one off for recycling.

To finish then, if anyone has the correct replacement pump, let me know and more importantly, how much rolleyes.gif

Does look a bit wet round there doesn't it! If a pump is going to leak it's usually around the shaft seal behind the pulley. I just happen to have one in my garage only the pulley diameter is 108mm, probably the same as yours, it has the same number with almost unreadable last two digits. I think it must be from a 2.1td as that's all I have ever had but my present one has a 'v' belt drive.

Just to update you all, as you can probably tell from the pic mine has the 'multi-grip' type of pulley. With regards to actually getting a pump, tomorrow I will find out if the citroen garage I spoke to today can get hold of a new/spare pump that originally came from Citroens testing dept.

If not, I will be checking for spares from your good selves.

Cheers

All praise biggrin.gif to Triple 'A' Citroen Surgeons in Rye, East Sussex who managed to source me a brand new (well old stock), Genuine Citroen pump for only £140 + VAT. THis was a lot cheaper than the £300 I was quoted by various sources and even cheaper than the Citroen RRP of £450 odd+VAT biggrin.gif

Let's hope the weather is better tomorrow so that I can do battle with the belt tensioner and not get soaked sad.gif

Thanks for all of your offers of second hand ones and help!

Neil
