Been messing with my Series 2 V6 24v tonight.....

The suspension is rock hard so i replaced the spheres tonight.

After replacing the spheres took it for a drive and no change what so ever. Checked on the V6 Xantia that I am breaking and noticed that they both use the H5 ECU. Swapped the ECU over and took it for another run and it was a little bit softer.

When i flick the switch into sports suspension there is no light that appears on the dash board, and no message that appears on the screen.

When pushing on the corners of the car it still feels rock hard.

I am puzzled, When listening I cannot hear any electro valves clicking in or out either. I'm completely stumped.

I did wonder about trying to solder new diodes in but haven't attempted that yet as it still wasn't right with the Xantia ECU.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

David.

Hi David

H5 suspension ECU's are manufactured unprogrammed. They are then coded for the car model they are to be used on with an ELIT. The memory device in the ECU that the programme is stored in is a write once only device. You cannot go back in and change it. Citroen require dealers to mark the ECU with the car type once it is coded so that it is not fitted to any other model at a later date. In the workshop manual they also prohibit the transfer of H5 ECU's between different models.

Not sure where this gets you. I try to steer clear of H5's and am collecting H4's which can be recoded.

Regards

John

Hi David,

If there is no dash light and you cant hear the electrovalves buzzing i would say the suspension ecu is not getting any power...........maybe a fuse blown somewhere? dont know where the hydractive fuse is though, sorry i cant be any more help.

Good luck

Hi David

...also, the diodes seat *on* the electrovalves not in the ecu, so if that's the problem, a swap of ecu's wouldn't make any difference.

cheers

Have been and checked fuse 7 which according to the hand book is the fuse for the hydractive suspension (10A) and it is fine.

Not sure what else could be the problem however will try and get it plugged into an Elite machine and see what fault codes come off it.

There is more than one fuse for the suspension ECU on S2, sorry I can't be more specific than that. Between Haynes, and the two different(rolleyes.gif) Citroen manuals I had, I discovered at least three, one of which was shared with the alarm and central locking.
When I got the car these were inoperative, and when I replaced their blown fuse, the suspension began working...

If you have no sport mode light then the ECU isn't getting power.

Will need to start checking fuses one by one and see how we get on i think.

The Russek book I have is for Series 1 Petrol's only I think so will check Haines book of lies and see what is says.

Thanks again.

Hi David

ive had a look at my car for you and it would seem that you need to check fuses, F19 15A, F34 30A and possibly F27 20A, hope this helps.

Just seen yours is MK2 so i doubt it will be the same.
Regards
Dean

It will but not when the electrovalves aren't working, obviously if they are working and it is just a bulb in the dash gone then the centre sphere's should be swapped first, which ones did you change David???

I did all 4 corner spheres as the centre ones are dated fairly recently, within the last 18 months if i recall correctly.

Have found another fuse as suggested by Ciaran, but my remote central locking and dead locking are both working so that rules that fuse out.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Regards

David.

I would test to see if the ECU is getting power, there's a pinout for them here.

If power is reaching the multiplugs for the ECU, then I'd begin to suspect the box itself. I know you tried the one from your Xantia, but as John said, if its coded to a Xant and not an XM the results will have been skewed anyway.

Odd that the shared alarm / hydractive fuse yielded no results for you, in mine it was totally dead until I changed that fuse to fix the non functional alarm, and the suspension unexpectedly came to life. Previous to that, it had no sport mode light or dot matrix message when the button was pressed. I hadn't noticed the hardness though as the car wasn't driven any distance, and we offloaded it from a trailer straight into my driveway.

Bottom line is;
No light / status message = no power to ECU / dead ECU = closed electrovalves = permanent hard mode.

Ciarán

Ciaran,

When you say the alarm fuse, was your remote central locking or dead locking working with that fuse blown? Or was it just the alarm that was knackered.

David.

It was just the alarm and deadlocks that were dead, the remote locking works independantly of those.

I only noticed there was a problem because it wouldn't deadlock, there was no alarm LED, and there were no indicators flashing when I locked / unlocked.
