Nice looking car - how bad are the sills - where is the rust; the outer facing flat, or where the
floor meets the sill underneath? Is it localised to one end or along the length of the car? What mileage is the car showing? (new engine notwithstanding!) Andrew |

Its been jacked up by previous MoT testers on the lip of the front sills. I regret to say I never repaired this and rust has begun.
The total mileage is 175,000. The major owner from new before me was a doctor in Wakefield who spent a fortune on the car. I have the garage bills which include a factory exchange engine at 90,000 and endless visits to the garage for minor fettling. They had an insurance plan which paid the bills. I had a clutch put in under 5,000 miles ago as well as belts. The exhaust is recent and I bought a new battery and starter motor two weeks ago! I am reluctant to see it broken as it is complete in every detail. The interior is excellent. As one would expect, the engine runs and pulls well and uses no oil. Any suggestions? -------------------- 2.5 Exclusive Estate 1994 metallic greenie colour

Sorry, just seen your detail about the length of the rust.
Its mostly at the front where the floor and sill are crimped together. The crimping is flattened for about a foot back. I'll try and put up a picture. regards, Dermot -------------------- 2.5 Exclusive Estate 1994 metallic greenie colour

Paul,
According to the 1995 XM brochure that I have, leather was only standard with the V6 exclusive. Leather was an option with other engine types/sizes. An autotrader check revealed this car to be an 'XM VSX TURBO DIESEL', which explains the VSX seats. Paul. -------------------- 94M 2.0 Turbo Exclusive auto hatch, Green, RP 6552

Hmmmm that confirms the "Exclusive" trim WAS NEVER with the 2.5 Estate body...

What are you talking about?!
This is a serious thread. The car is an Exclusive and doesn't need qualifying. And it doesn't have any spelling mistakes!! -------------------- 2.5 Exclusive Estate 1994 metallic greenie colour

Hi Dermot,
sorry if I offended you, I certainly didn't intend to, and I wasn't mocking you, I realised it was a serious post, and it looks like a nice car. I simply did a vehicle check on the autotrader website. You can try it yourself, click on this link................. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/vehiclecheck/vehiclecheck.jsp then type in your vehicle reg. no., then click on 'start check'. I assume that the information is obtained from the DVLA in Swansea.........but it could be wrong I suppose. What does it say on the Registration Certificate? Have a look at the XM brochure below, see the section at the top left, titled 'Engine Availability', then try to find your car '2.5 Exclusive Estate'. I think citroenxm was right about the 2.5 estate not being available in Exclusive trim. -------------------- 94M 2.0 Turbo Exclusive auto hatch, Green, RP 6552

Hi All
This is a situation where the vehicle V5 documentation is critical. Is the word Exclusive included on the V5 registration document description of the car. While Citroen made NO production Exclusive Mk2 Estates (source Citroen XM presentation 1995 model year range) they did provide VSX Estate factory upgrade options at cost for leather, alloys, aircon but no electric arm rest or plastic wood on the door trim. To supply quickly Dealers also retrofitted some cars on hand to customers personal spec including Exclusive badges if requested. Citroen also made a very small number of motor show cars and these included at least one 2.5 Estate to full Exclusive spec including dark brown leather, heated seats and aircon. I very much doubt that it was the only show special made. Cloth instead of leather was also a no cost option for Exclusive Mk2 XM's as a few customers do not like leather seats. Where these Estates were upgraded at factory or by the dealer prior to registration then it was normal Citroen practice to register the car as Exclusive instead of VSX. In summary Citroenxm you are wrong! Cloth does not stop a Mk2 from being an Exclusive in the same way as a VSX with Leather/Alloys/aircon is still a VSX unless Citroen registered it as Exclusive. Hi Paul
Sorry, I though I would push the limits of friendship a little more in the interest of publishing little known XM facts. Your SEi statement is not quite right either as the SEi was the lower of two different trim levels for the top of the range XM's. For the later Series 1 cars there were actually four different trim levels (source Citroen 1994 Model year Presentation) and for Estates two trim levels. For Saloons the description is: PRESENCE (trim level 1) standard cloth (ISO velvet) no options. SENSATION (trim level 2) LILLE velvet + plain velvet or option of Ouragan leather. AMBIANCE (trim level 3) Marina velvet + plain velvet or options of Grey leather, Ouragan leather or Savane leather. EXCLUSIVE (trim level 4) standard leather options of Ouragan leather, Savane leather or Alcantara + velvet. For Estates the description is: DETENTE (trim level 1+) standard cloth (ISO velvet) no options. AMBIANCE (trim level 3) Marina velvet + plain velvet with five options of Ouragan leather, Savane leather, VIP pack + Ouragan leather, VIP pack + Savane leather and VIP pack with Alcantara + Velvet. Bet you did not know that the final top of the range Mk1's were sold as EXCLUSIVES but not badged as such. Surely what Citroen wrote in press releases and what actually rolled out the showroom are going to
be two totally different things; a run out of s1.5's with leather half and half must have been a very limited number of cars? I've never seen one and have bought a good many and looked at most of the others too!! Andrew |

Hi Andrew
I am quoting from the Dealers workshop manual from the detailed model year presentations and from personal experience of XM documentation that I have examined. I also did at one time run a 94 Mk2 estate so have first hand knowledge of the installed internal trim levels. That car was registered as Exclusive on the V5 but the only trim level badge actually on the car was a VSX on the tailgate. The only quote that I do not retain published documentation for was the 2.5 motor show estate which was already sold on but not collected when I got there. I still spent an hour or so looking over it. Regards John This post has been edited by xmexclusive on July 15, 2008 04:54 pm -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi Guys
I'd be a little circumspect about relying overmuch on the DVLA listing for precise model detail. I know of one Vauxhall model where they got the absolutely basic model series completly wrong for a couple of years and, in any event, the details for a new car are only as good as the registering party supplies. Had a 1.5 Prestige a while back which the insurers simply didn't recognise as a variant at all. Personally, must admit it's my impression they never did an Exclusive estate, just specced up VSX. Mind, there do seem to be a few Exclusive hatches around with cloth trim. Everyone to their own , I suppose. Anyway -- if you all can't agree, is it a scrap behind the bike sheds when school's out ??? Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185
