There are probably about a handful of these left in RHD form now and it
was a very rare car in its day new. It was only available for a very
limited window of opportunity from late 1984 to mid '85 and if my
references are accurate about only around 160 made it into the UK...

It is the ultimate spec for a big Citroen petrolhead as it has the metal
bumpers and looks of the early purer car bit with the go of the later plastic
bumpered version that had its 2.5 petrol turbo engine.

This earlier model has the totally off the wall dash (alas but with dials not
drums though), the best seats ever found in a Cx and the final icing on the
cake is the exhaust and unique and expensive TRX alloys/tyres are OK and
these are the hardest bits to find PLUS the hydraulic pipes are described as
being in good order - another potentially costly and time consuming job.

A weekend of informed spannering will fix a leaking return pipe, horn,
track rods and lower wishbone, and I've never known any of these cars
have a working handbrake that stays in adjustment for longer than a week!

Bodywork isn't desperate and would respond well to modest specialist help
for a bargain head turner that you'll never again (unless you live near me wink.gif )

No it's not mine and in different circumstances I'd be buying this one.

IF life with an Xm is just 'too normal' for you what's stopping you, go put a
bit of pazzaz into that trip to Sainsbury's...

How the hell can he expect to sell that with such USELESS crap pictures!!!

Id have to have leather in her though! But *drooool* *drooool*!!

Just too soon for me, as you know andrew..

I think when the time comes, it would be best to possibly have one from you, which might need work, at least Id know what bit of history the car might have had...

Well, I have a fair menagerie of these but only ONE with leather! Quite a rare fitment on them and
I'm not the biggest fan of leather on a good day, or a cold one... wink.gif

In the end, it does depend whether the s1 look works for you more than the s2. For me, the
ultimate CX spec is this blurred maroon vision you've seen here and although I'm repeating
myself, you really must believe me when I say this is a very rare big Cit - its easily there
with a s1 24v'er and rockin' orsepoo for sure!

With those photo's hiding any issues, I'd be looking at it as a parts car that's probably rotted out. They must be some of the worst photo's I've ever seen in an ebay add.

Lower suspension arm bushes.... Well if there gone it'll need ball joints, tie rod joints, top arm bearings... When you add them all up, it's quite expensive... Fitting them is NOT a simple job with several special tools needed.

Where's the rust ? You can't even tell in the piccies. Everything looks really corroded and abused under the bonnet. The tyres aren't TRX's are they ? Are they Avons ? Even in the piccies they look like rock hard ancient rubber (sh!t tyres when new either way).

Given the ebay add quality I don't expect it to even get one single bid.

I'd pay it's minimum if it was somewhere that allowed me to get it home, most certainly with the view it's a parts car.

Sad to see such a nice car in such tired condition sad.gif

I hear what you're saying Shane, and you may well be right; nothing beats a damn good
examination of something like this before you bid/buy. It's been on ebat a few times and
hasn't had one whiff of bidding due to the limited description and rubbish pictures.

The inside door shut looks dry and dusty which is good news as it suggests structurally here
it's fine. In the UK, seams of rust like the other two pictures are to be expected on a car
over 20 years old. The fact is a metal bumper CX with a sunroof still alive in the UK suggests
someone has been looking after it!!

Those are TRX's pictured and it's again awkward to make out if they've cracked or not.

It may be a spares car, but for little money it'd be worth seeing and getting sorted. I accept
you'd need special tools for pressing the lower arm bushes - it's not totally clear from the
naff description if it's an MOT fair on a ball joint or arm bush etc...

Special tool??? I wouldn't call a big vice "special tool." Youi must have been reading Haynes again!

I even have a hydaulic press here... You see you must press the bushes in, then HOLD THEM in. I had a hell of a time trying to get my arms back in... Damn it was difficult, I tried making quite a few special tools to "hold" them together. I ended up getting it back together without the right pre-load on one side sad.gif

The "special tool" you insert a rod into that "expands" holding the bushes together after you have squished 'em together in a press/vice. Once you install the arm, you remove the tool and insert the bolt !

Judging by the number of cars I see every day now offered at the side of the road with home
made 'FOR SALE' notices stuck in them there doesn't seem to be a lot of buying but instead a
lot of panicking so I'm not surprised anybody is shifting much. Combined with the fuzziest pictures
with just enough detail that you may recognise the car and a measly 3-4 lines of description and
I feel this car may be being badly undersold although I accept it may very well be a the biggest
load of trouble imaginable.

A couple of years ago I bought a superb pair of GTi Turbo examples (1 a s1 and the other a s2) for
the same amount as this red one each; actually one was under 200. The market for old Cits is very
fickkle and notoriously unreliable and inconsistent

DJGLW - I'm saddened that your early EARLY Cx hasn't found a new loving home yet - there
cannot be many of these - seemingly the money for CX's is being spent on newer DTR's and GTi's.
I wish you every success in your sale.

Thanks Andrew. It is sitting outside and I don't know what the winter will do to it.
I could be in the unusual situation of breaking an MOTed CX.
