Further Pink Stripe XM woes - Noisy power steering

Not a very technical description in the title/topic, I grant you, but hopefully you get the gist of it.

With the engine running, there's a constant shhhhing from the steering, which only stops if you apply a bit of a turn to the s/wheel.

It's there most of the time.

It happens when you're on the move as well as when stationery.

It definitely sounds like there's something not quite right going on, but the steering feels OK.

Any suggestions? I'm building up a nice "to do" list that'll keep me busy for a while.
