he BBC South East news played an item on biodiesel at a cheaper price tha normal diesel.

Has any one tried this yet?

How is the use of veggie oil going--not seen any posts for this for some time now.

Hi XOO

Don't know about the specific item you mention, but certainly in Brum the supply of bio is getting very variable, with two or three full time suppliers having gone out of business due, I'm guessing, to the difficulty in securing regular supplies.
Also, depending what you're running, with bio into the 90p + area, it is becoming more economical to run a petrol engine on LPG than the corresponding diesel.

Only thing that is absolutely for sure is that we're getting completely screwed by the government.

Mike.

I have run both of my 2.5's on 25-30% vegetable oil for nearly a year now. Any weeps fom pump/injectors does tend to leave a horrible sticky mess which is difficult to remove. also around filler gets bretty grotty from any spillage. I'm sure the car would be happy running much greater proportions, particularly in warm weather.

I'm setting up a filtration system for waste oil at the mo using an old hot water tank, pump and in line filters. I'm also going to install an inline heater to enable me to start up on 100% veg oil, this uses glow plugs to heat up the oil to the same viscosity as diesel. I've had enough of £1.30 a litre, i aim to wave goodbye to filling stations as i've got a regular supply sorted.

Problem is that the major supermarkets are putting up the price of veggie in line with diesel, now running at £3.50 for three litres. The savings are hardly worth the effort.

To think that three years ago, before the world and his wife cottoned on to using veggie, it was 35p a litre.

Hi gents

I run my v reg 2.5 transit on 100% biodiesel with no problems whatsoever, it actually runs quieter. My dad runs his 06 reg 2.5TD Mazda on 100% too with no problems in the last 3k even the Mazda main dealers said there is no problems with it and still honour his warranty. Another guy at work has run his Transit connect on 100% bio for the last 30k and he said there has been no trouble with it, and come on, 87p +vat a litre against £1.39, i know with the work mileage i do i was never going to continue being screwed by Gormless Brown mad.gif

I have heard of mixed reports on bio. The main problem is back street dealers selling dodgy stuff. One of the lads on the Bx forum had big problems and ended up stripping and cleaning everything.

Well so far... I ahve tried...

Used engine oil... works fine, actually goes better!
Used chip fat.. also works!
Used ATF.. also works but dyes fuel red.. won't do that again! Did however stop the puff of smoke on startup, now it runs better, uses less fuel, if it wern't red I think I'd drop it in every change! easy way to dispose of it!

All the above had been filtered to 1 micron before going in the tank

Absolutely, that's what I do and sod the colour change. If "they" stop me in my wife's car I'm in deep poo anyway.

Incidentally, in this week's episode of "Warship" on the through deck carrier Illustrious, the 2ic engineering mentioned that they run the ship's Olympus engines on diesel. Why would they provide separate tanks for diesel when they've got several hundred tons of kero on board?

Diesel is the fuel of war, nearly everything except aircraft runs on it. It keeps the logistics simple, and I think it's safer too (not sure about that one though).

I understand that the MOD are even looking into deisel motorbikes.

But it makes more sense to use a single fuel source for all gas turbines, ship and aircraft. You could refuel the occasional hyab and tractor out of cans.
