In the last thread i said that i was looking at purchasing another XM.
I think I have decided to leave it unfortunately as after import duty, tax and everything else I wouldn't have had much change from £7k, and with hoping to go back to University, £7k on an 8 year old XM is to much. I said in the other thread I would reveal when i knew what was happening, so here are the pictures and details. Pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's a year 2000 W Reg V6 Exclusive with one owner from new, and 40k miles on the clock. Regards David. If you were considering importing it, where is it at the moment - Japan!?
I didn't realise there was a hefty tax burden on second hand cars brought into the UK; sure new one's but not SH... Andrew |

It's currently residing in Malsyasia.
Because the car has been out of the UK for more then 3 years it has lost its EC status and has to pay to have it re-assigned. D -------------------- 1990 V6 SEi Auto - breaking for spares.

Interesting Road trip bringing it back. Guess you could take a digicam to record
the process and sell it to Channel 4 to fund it's purchase!! How on earth did you find that? www? Those red stripes trouble me. Nice to see that the bonnet and hatch can stay open on their struts. (why do people do this on ebay - sunroof opens? Yes; doors and boot work!? No). Andrew This post has been edited by Andmcit on April 23, 2008 11:57 am |

It was a hard decision!
One that I still am not sure I have done the right thing with! Who knows, i might still turn around and take it, but at the moment I'm swung towards the No angle due to tax and regulations. I don't fancy fiddling it either as I don't fancy ending up inside for evading tax. haha. David. -------------------- 1990 V6 SEi Auto - breaking for spares.

Great mileage on the car etc, but surely there'll be a few available nearer to home
- if not now, in the near future? Only Xm I've seen with a battery cover - I knew these existed but have never actually seen evidence to substantiate this!! Andrew |

£7000 is a bargain for this beauty. I would go for it immediately if I didn't already have one

Probably a once in a life time chance. These cars with low mileage are really rare. Battery cover? A feature of the ES9J4 and the Turbo Diesel. -------------------- 2000 XM 3.0 V6 24v Exclusive Auto 70k km (LHD; ORGA 8569)

Do you know someone who lives there and is going to emigrate over here as that is the only loophole in the import duty.
You can bring your own car tax free with you but must prove that you owned it fo a while before coming over. Just a thought. Cracking car mind John -------------------- Currently XMless

Battery cover - my current 99 V6 has a battery cover as did my 95 2.1TD and 91 2.0i. Surely they were standard.

Man, even with the import duty, 7000 BP is cheap!! If you pass up on this one you will regret it the rest of your life If I had the space to store it I'd buy it myself. But I can see the quandary you are in. You guys there in Britain have gotten so much used to buying dirt cheap XMs with astronomically high mileages you can spend years trying to fix what previous owners steadfastly neglected. And you'll never get it right. Instead of paying a fair price for a superior vehicle which will give you many years of joy. Well, if this is crap, what isn't? I do hope this car gets an owner it deserves -------------------- 2000 XM 3.0 V6 24v Exclusive Auto 70k km (LHD; ORGA 8569)
