Talking of chrome strips has anyone tried the stainless steel ones offered by a Mr Taub (about 70 euros for the eight XM side strips). I have seen them talked about on the French Car Forum.

Not tried those ones, but I believe someone on XM-L sells them, Brian Primmer maybe?
Or was it our own Xmexclusive? I can't remember... see what these 4am bedtimes on a weeknight do for you...

Hi all

Techmanagain does the stainless steel replacements for the doors and wings but last time i asked he couldn't do the ones for the bumpers, i think its very difficult to bend the stainless to the shape that is needed, may well be worth asking him though.

Yes, I have a note of those. Stainless steel are they? Someone has painted these with black paint and as you see a lot of it has come off. I dont know whether I prefer them black or silver.

No John, am I not a saloon convert, I jsut couldn't bring myself to break it, so its a spare, we use it when we are not taking the dog out or carrying DIY materials or boilers or fridges or XM parts or...

nice looking car though Peter, and for the money somewhat of a bargain. Are the chrome strips good under the paint then or has someone painted them because they went manky? if you could get that paint off she'd be sweet wink.gif

The strips don't look to bad underneath, I don't know whether to clean them up or paint them again - with something that sticks!

It actually looks good (to me) with the strips in black! Kind of more hmmm...modern than with silver ones? Or more...hmmm...sporty? Not sure but I like it.

cheers

Im interested in taking all my strips off and painting them black. Three questions
(i) HOW do I get them off?
(ii) WHAT do I paint them with?
(iii) HOW do I paint them?
Not done this before so excuse the naivety ...

Good idea!

I actually met somebody who's doing painting jobs in his free time, so might as well do it! My trims really need a freshening anyway (see: throw away).

I can't view your pitcure for some reason, it just appears as a lot of symbols and letters huh.gif Im sure it looks very tidy!

I just wanted to add, ive recently got the stainless steel side trims for mine, they have really improved the look. I also ordered new front and rear chrome strips from the Citroen dealer, i think they came in at around £140 for both. Its really worth it, looks ten times better.

From my experience of getting my old side trims off, i think you will find it hard to get them off all in one piece! Some of mine broke into hundreds of little bits, i think the backing plastic just gets brittle with age.
