Beware, as I nearly fell foul of this one. I bought a set of rear pads from a local parts shop the other day. When I came to fit them they went in the caliper perfectly, but the pad material itself didn't cover the full area of the disk. I checked up on the PDF parts fiche and lo and behold, the 98>V6 and 2.5TD have a different part number from the standard saloon and estate pads.

It turns out, from reading the notes, in Noz's excelent cd, That the above cars have a pad with 12% more rubbing area, but they appear to be made on a backing plate with exactly the same dimensions as the standard pad. The disk is also a larger diameter. When I returned the pads to the store we went through the catalogue and it was obvious that the maker had assumed that the pad was standard. The catalogue (delphi) specificly identified the 98>V6 and 2.5TD separately from other saloon models, but listed the pad as having the same part no. We then checked up a Mintex catalogue and they had made exactly the same mistake.

The only catalogue that made the distinction between the models was Ferodo, but when we checked the cross reference for other manufacturers in the back even they had made a mistake.

The bottom line is beware when changing pads on these models. Ferodo seem to be the only manufacturer outside of Citroens part counter who recognise that these pads are different. This is all made worse by the fact that the standard pad fits the caliper and could be changed inadvertantly!
