Well, I've dismantled and put it back together without removing the steering wheel. smile.gif

The display was pretty much useless but now there's only a few vertical lines missing after following someones advice on the XM-L group.

If I didn't have to go to work I'd have carried on till it all worked. Hopefully I'll get back on that before too long. wink.gif

Hi All,
Does anyone have the instruction on how to replace the dash bulbs on a Mk1 the dash removal pdf for the Mk2 is nothing like the Mk1, I have removed the two screews one either side of the display shroud and nothing, if its like the Mk2 there must be a lot more screws,
Thanks,
Norman

If I remember rightly from my 2.1 S1 days, the approved method of removal of the cowl is with the heel of the hands and a good thump upwards,(after the two screws are out, of course).

Hi all,
Got the instrument cowl off as sugested but it wasn't easy, replaced the burnt out bulbs but could not tell if they were ok or not the daylight was too bright left it until it went dark and found to my horror that all the dash lights didn't work, checking the bulbs with known good ones (i have a spare instrument cluster) nearly every bulb had failed due to what i assume was the removal of the cowl.
i now intend to replace the cowl assemble with the lights on so the filaments in the bulbs as not as brittle when turned off, i'll let you know how i get on
Regards,
Norman

Hi All.
Put the instrument panel back in nice and easy but on testing the light i have lost the suspension state and the dipped beam indicator bulbs, should i take it out again and risk loosing more bulbs or leave it as is, these bulbs seem very susceptable to bangs and jolts or are they old,?
Now for the door locks unlocking after being locked, by disconnecting each door in turn by unscrewing the harness connector at the door end i have found the problem to be the passanger door at fault looking at the corroded connector and thinking a little WD40 will cure that but no such luck time to dismantel the door and look at the switch.
Regards
Norman

I would suggest you get new bulbs and renew the two which are not working..You will presumably check their correct fitment before condemning them? It's a bit of a bind to have to do the whole job again just for the sake of a few extra minutes spent now.

I couldn't get the download to work either; it just opened as gobbledegook.

Eventually traced it to popup blocking options: disbale them for the page in IE7 and it works. Not sure about Firefox (though that's what I prefer), bu there must be a way cool.gif
