I have just got a 2.1 TD XM, 160K miles, hardly used last year before I got it, from my Dad. Now the ':?:'

The alarm has been going off, for no particular reason. Tried turning off the ultrasonics, big improvement, but I don't want to have to remember to do that every time I park. (Dad helpfully said he never uses the alarm, he uses the key, because the alarm keeps going off).

My attempts to do that were thwarted today, I couldn't lock it, without the central locking then unlocking it. Just for good measure it turned the alarm on again, so that went off when I tried to see if a door was open.

I have seen the open door illuminate against the drivers door, that turned out to be a boiled sweet in the drivers door lock, and now that shuts properly.

Anyway, has anyone taken Nos up on his manual CD, and does it cover the alarm system circuit diagrams..? I saw a post that claimed that intermittent operation could be caused by poor batteries in the alarm unit, so does anyone know if there are batteries in the alarm unit, or is this mis-information..?

Anyone like to tell me where the alarm unit is..? My guess is under the central console somewhere.

Seen another post suggesting poor central locking caused by corroded conections in the door near the lock mechanismn.. again, anyone know if this makes sense..?

Anyway, I'd like to discuss my problems if anyone is in the mood...
(I've also got a starter solenoid that sometimes goes click)
