What do you pay for your MOTs? I've always paid the going rate, currently £50, but have found a local tyre place (Mr Tyre) that does them for £40.

In this day and age, every little helps!

My lad has just had his car MOT''d at kwik-fit for £39.99. It's a Citroen Saxo 1.1 - it failed surprise, surprise! It failed on a rear disc being rusty, it needs a new front exhaust box, a new rear box, the headlights are too low and it needs a new tyre. Anybody know the base Saxo - it has a drum rear end! The tyre has a cut in the tread area that is shallower than the centre tread! Can't complain about the 2 bits of exhaust - they are quite rusty. How much for that little lot???????
How about £588.55!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They want £136.00 for the disc that doesn't exist and a whacking £369.50 for the 2 bits of exhaust! £25 to adjust the lights - and £57.50 for a tyre.
I am just about to write to their customer services and see what utter crap they are going to come up with. In the meantime, avoid kwik-crap at all costs!!!!!!

Now sadly gone to the great scrappy in the sky! And I now want another one as all of my winter projects are finished!

Hi

It's not customer services you want there - it's Trading Standards you want - I wouldn't even bother customer services with a phone call. If you didn't know anything about cars you would have been screwed - so don't be polite and British - go to Trading Standards.

Cheers

Yes we pay the going rate (about 35 I think) for a government employed monkey who doesn't know much about cars, and even less about Citroens, to abuse and then fail it on items he doesn't understand.

My indies charge £60 now, a bit extra for their time to take it there and back, but they know about cars and I dont really so I consider it worth the extra. THe only time I did
put a car thru the MOT myself (very first one, Visa GT) I regretted it.

I am shuddering at the thought of someone takng an XM into Kwik Fit

This evening I saw a garage at Elvington advertising MOT's for £35 - that's £15 below the normal rate..........you can almost guarantee that the car won't pass at that price.......they have to make their money up somewhere don't they..........

As for Kwik-Fit (AKA Fleecem & Bodgit)......I wouldn't have trusted them in the first place.......I'm surprised they're still in business.........they've had so much bad publicity over the years

If you go to a proper garage instead of Kwik Flit it will probably pass. I wouldn't even give them the time of day. mad.gif

I pay £37 and even begrudge that. I think a tester can see if a car has been looked after within a couple of minutes, and as soon as they find one thing wrong they're looking all the harder at the rest.

The Saxo exhaust must have been very badly rusty to fail - it's normally just an advisory on any corroded exhaust parts as long as there is no blowing.

I suppose we should all be shocked at the kwikfit tale, but worryingly, we're not.

I could never be in the motor trade, I'm too honest and I'd never make any money. biggrin.gif

I pay whatever the going rate is, because my local garage will tell me what wants doing, allow me to take it away and do it and not charge me for retesting - I don't think you can get a better deal than that.

Peter,

Apparently, by VOSA laws, they HAVE to charge for a retest IF you take the car away, but the price is their discretion... (I may be wrong though)

I pay £52 and the only thing I May get a fail on is brakes, as I cannot test these myself, I do my own pre test myself before I go so I only have to worry about brakes and emmisions...

Of course, its hard to tell if rear brakes on Cits work or not..

Anyone a spare rolling road to sell??!!!

Hi All

I pay £45 for a trade MOT but the VOSA recommended charge for the MOT is now £50. Now it is all computerised amongst other things VOSA gets an exception report where the entries are made too quickly for the required check to have taken place. So if you take a MOT failure back out of time (VOSA rules) the full retest is mandatory. Regarding the QuickFit saga it is a pity they do not check car type against impossible faults and start failing incompetent examiners.

Regards

XMexc

Mr Tyre did a thorough test but it did cost me two new front wiper blades at £7.50 each plus VAT.

The advertised £40 was a bit of a come on, it was actually £40 + VAT, so the true figure was £47.

Still, that's the V6 legal again.

Now there may be a little shock at what im about to say, but.................i take mine to the local cit dealer ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ............£50 it costs now, but its never failed an M.O.T there in the 4 or 5 years ive had it. They are more than happy to let me in the shop while they do it, i get a free cupa and they even adjusted the headlamp aim on the triple lamp conversion for free after they were fitted, and that is a right sod to do as well. Now if their spares could be a reasonable price and they knew how the xm actually worked or more to the point how to fix it the world would be a better place biggrin.gif

Hi xmexc

yes shocking isnt it, the parts department is especially lazy though, preferring to say a part is no longer made than take the time to look for it.......i suppose this makes up for the M.O.T incident biggrin.gif biggrin.gif To be fair they used to be a Volvo dealership, and i think they have Volvo back now, also we have no Saab garage here so they do a lot of Saab repair, they seem to be in close contact with Saab of Southampton, maybe they are just ovlov dealers in disguise ph34r.gif .
