hope the pic works. this car cost me £3000. expensive i know but i wanted one that had no faults to speak of and malcom up at savoy motors found exactly that. apart from some of the others around the net where around £5000 i didnt do too bad. the only thing i find unerving is the s2's habit of hanging onto the gears as she climbs the speedo. but i,m told its normal and to change it by changing certain parts will not benefit it at all. she is exceptional on juice and tends to pull like a train but will then turn from frugal to needing a tanker on tow if i try to race the flyboys around my area (which i confess to being guilty of once every so often). i have a strong dislike of my xm being called an xantia "oohh nice xantia" f!"£$%^&* o!"£$%^&*()! is my usual reaction. unlesss said person is female and has the curves to match then i get slightly more polite. (well who wouldn't). at 48 yrs of age i,m gettin conscous of a few things. something i need to ask has anyone ever made a fast xm? you know, the uber modded type of car. something outstanding and positively evil, get my drift? they have a cd factor of .28 so has anyone ever made one realy quick? and i dont mean that stupid pink one i keep seeing around the net, god that things ugly !! -------------------- t plate (UK) black vsx auto xm saloon

may be worth looking into the bx's 4*4 system but they have weak transfer boxes appearently and given the extra weight of the xm it may not cope.

same as mine, though mine has some major scars:/
A fast XM? why would anycody want one? I always drive very slow (I have automatic gearbox so its always around 40km/h, couse switching to next gear would need speeding up to 60km/h which is hard to do in the city:) and all my friends laught at me but I always tell them to be grateful that they can spend more time in the car;) Also, call me crazy, but when I first bought it, it was soooo hard for me to get out of the super-comfortable car!:D It's still kinda hard, I wish I could keep it in my apartment:D This post has been edited by sophie on January 12, 2009 03:40 pm -------------------- ![]() XM II, born Nov 27, 1994, 2,1 TD automatic 217000km |

I agree, I drive mine at 60-70 mph for hours and get 50+ mpg. I think some of our members have still got a bit of the boy racer in them

The Xm promotes a relaxed driving style, it goes well with its character.
Although i don't hang about in mine (Im no boy racer though, dont get me wrong), its so nice to drive faster down some good country lanes (left in sports mode too), although in the town i pootle about and on the motorways i tend to stick to 70-80ish. My 2.0 Auto is no quick car, so getting a good start is never going to happen, so i just sit back, relax and enjoy the drive Going by the brochure spec, the 2.1TD Auto is the slowest Xm available at that time. Now, you have to remember that Citroens literature doesn’t seem all that accurate (i have a good few Xm brochures and nearly all with different performance and economy figures for the same engine) Not that it means anything (how often do we actually go from 0-60?) but the book figure for the 2.1 Auto is 13 seconds, the manual is 11. The next slowest is my model with 12 for the auto. Id not call either a slow car, not sure how you could improve things, ive heard of a few diesel Xms which have been chipped but im not sure how or what results they gave. I know Citroen probably make their auto boxes which can take more power than they are given, but id have to question the reliability of a standard box with more power going through it. Id be happier with a manual for that purpose. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Its the same box in the 2l turbo, and v6 and saabs use them for transmitting up to 250 bhp in the 2.3T hot aero all be it with extra oil cooling.

at least i think it was near scotland. theres a reason why i bought it unseen. i am incapacitated (unable to work) and the car i had at the time was a temporary effort (old fiat uno) which was causing me considerable pain in legs back etc. so malcom kindly brought the car for me to look at. i was doing mechanics since i was 13 years of age( rebuilt a whole fuel injected volvo engine at 13.5 useing only a manual and no knowledge which the dealer said was a perfect job) so i am by no means stupid when it comes to cars . i have had a s1 3l v6 xm some years ago so i am familiar with some of the workings of the xm. he didnt charge me and after a few minutes i realised exactly what he had brought me, i didnt have to buy it but the quality and condition of this car was so high i was gobsmacked and damn near tore his arm off. i have since spent some money on it refining it, various parts that i considered would wear soon (in the next couple of years). its interior was spotless except for a fag burn on the drivers door armrest wich i will replace when i find one or i may replace the whole interior with leather but that may default its value , i'm not sure about that one yet
