Sounds a lot but I guess it's all relative. If it was "just the right car" for someone
and they're determined to stay with the Xm they know and love rather than spend a silly amount on a newer (more inferior?) model, maybe the price isn't as hideous after all! What else would you buy that's better than an Xm for the same price? A point PeterN has mentioned recently, whilst looking for a younger/fresher model. Wonder if WHM were the one's who offered to buy that silver s1 2.1 TD off ebay with 23k on it for a steal knowng they could sit it out the forecourt with a £5k+ price tag. Andrew |

Hadn't thought of that, but wouldn't surprise me if it was a speculator like them and it'll reappear in a few months time for ££££'s. Some people will ONLY buy from a garage, rather than ebay, purlely for the so-called peace-of-mind. Ha Ha, if only they knew that most dealers pick up cars from auctions and after a quick look over for major faults and a cheap valet, up goes the screen price. -------------------- '99 'V' XM 2.0 CT VSX Auto Estate RP 8360 Green.

I really can't believe what's being posted here so I'll put it this way instead. How many of us paid over £3K for our XMs?
As for what else for that price, well a top of the range Vel Satis or for a little more maybe this - 300211033617, or if you were lucky this - 320233141460, or this - 130203027400 and bank the spare £4K. How many of 'us' baulk at the idea of paying for a head or clutch yet think that £6.5K could be right for a XM. I like my XM but I'm really out of touch aren't I? Why a Punto? How about a normal XM plus a Xantia Activa and a CX as well? Steve. -------------------- XM 2.1 SED - RP5876

Absolutely bonkers price ! I've been away and missed it, but a V reg 16 valve estate, reg 2000 made just £375 at BCA today ! For 6500 the only thing I'd be looking at would be a good nick mid nineties Defender; have it ten years and get my 6500 back again. Mike. -------------------- XM 2.5VSX Estate RP 7185

This works for me. I've got a very nice Activa, Cx GTi Turbo2, 24v V6 s1, VSX Xantia TD saloon, Xm 2.0i Turbo CT, a pair of Xantia TD estate's and a base XM 2.0i (for sentimental reasons!!) all legal ON THE ROAD and on a random very interesting driving rota. (Don't think I'm serious? I'll list the reg numbers and you can check their Road tax online...) and I don't pretend they're all perfect or without their own little quirks and vices; they're all Citroens after all! And you'd be right! The running costs aren't cheap but life is more interesting living with the Citroen hareem rather than staying with the one 'Missus'! You think I approve of a 6.5k Xm!!? What do you reckon! So long as someone wants to pay me that price for some of mine! I was just trying to see if a degree of perspective helps here on this thread or in fact just totally blows it out of the water by common sense... I'm perfectly happy being seen as madder than a jar of badgers where I am rather than be the buyer of this high priced Xm, which I'm sure I could buy if I wanted a more ordinary motoring experience!! Just don't ask about all the others OFF the road..... Andrew |

We are talking here about a unique car - and they are not making them any more! Not that I would pay that much for one of course but there have been quite a few at similarly inflated prices that have sold, or at least have not appeared on the market again.
For the few that are hung up on XM's as most of us are and have the money, if they see a nice enough one they will spend it. If someone found me a late 2.1 manual estate, low mileage and immaculate condition, I would be prepared to part with quite a wodge of cash to secure it. It not just a question of what you could buy for the same money, it's what could you buy for the same money that has the comfort, space and economy (diesel) of the XM that you can repair yourself. The cost of repairing modern cars, especially diesels can run into thousands and you have to take them into the garage every time something goes wrong. How many modern cars are as durable as an XM? They may not be the most reliable but mechanically they are very well built and if you keep on repairing them they will go on almost forever. Many 'modern' cars are being scrapped at six or seven years old because they have a fault that is going to cost more to repair than the car is worth. Whatever else is out there, I'm sticking to my XM's. Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

I'm in the process of trying to secure an XM at the moment.
Asking price for it is £4800. Its an incredibly rare beast, and all will be revealed when i can be sure it's in my hands. David. -------------------- 1990 V6 SEi Auto - breaking for spares.

What, it has a working sunroof AND glovebox strut and handle that still work!? Does it have lots of valves and cylinders per chance? Andrew |
