I have just fixed everything nearly on my TCT, only the headlamp washers left. Heater was working for the first time sicne I have ahd the car, The LPG system was all working as it should.. But as I was turning right off the A372 towards draton in someret, a skip lorry decieds to overtake me.. and went striaght into the rear wing and drivers side rear door... it's almost certainly now a Cat D write off..

BUM...

Depressed...

Hi Stewart

Sorry to hear of your potential loss. Unless the body is damaged beyond economical repair, you should be able to find another door and fit it. If the worst comes to the worst, try and hang on to it for spares, at least you know it all works.

I felt a small proportion of your frustration when I reversed into some pallets at work a month ago and crunched my rear three quarter. sad.gif

Hope the damage is not as bad when you look at it tomorrow.

OK, can anyone tell me what differance there is between an S1 rear door and an S2 rear door that will pose a problem fitting an S1 door to an S2? As I have a choice, pay Paul Johnson £100 for an S2 door or my local scrappy £10 for an S1 door? This is in preparation for the writing off of the car!, neither doors are the correct colour. Before the accident I was giving consideration to taking the car to poland for a full respray (Thus avoiding ripoff britain prices) so hopfully if it is written off I will get my respray paid for

Hi Stewart

As far as I know, structually they are the same but the trim is different, but don't get one on the strength of my opinion as I am sure someone else will know exactly. XMexc is an expert on these things I'm sure he will be along shortly.

Hi Stewart

Early series 1 doors lack the side impact bar so make exchanging internal bits easier. If you take a series 1 door the fitting holes are common but you will have to change the door catch and wiring loom over as these are different. On reflection this will make it quite a bit of work to use a Mk1 one. Estate doors need the top plastic trim removed but are car doors underneath though the trim is well glued on. I could find a Mk2 estate door for you but it would be blue and I need to check it for condition and take it off the car. On the insurance front it might be worth paying your MOT man to inspect your car and tell you that it is still safe to continue to drive it once the door is changed. Then write to the other party saying that you are doing this at an estimated cost of £x as a temporary measure because of your immediate need for a car and to avoid them having to pay for a hire car while repairs are authorised. £100 for a door and £50 or so to fit/inspect the car would not be unreasonable in these circumstances and should not count against the write off value. Then take a cash settlement and get the polish respray next holiday.

Regards

XMexc

The polish respray, this has been going on for some time in europe, the european classic car fraterity have been sending cars to poland for full restorations for some time, and the cost make some borderline classics restorable within the values of the car (SD1's, ADO16s, escrots etc). SD1 basket case full rebuild for a shade under £3000 for example (see Aronline) So logically it shoudl be possible to get a half decent respray for minimal outlay. Not sure what tourist attractions there are to find mind!

This may also be of interest to CX owners..

Hmm,, how are they different? as my VSX has no one touch on anything other than the drivers door (which actually now has an S1 window regulator due to failure of the S2 item! this did take a lot more messing about than it should have!).
The only other leccy bits will be the central locking motor, but this may have a diffrent conector but I suspect electrically speaking it will be little diffrent, and the door catch looks to be mechanically identical, although is there a door shut switch? but if there is this will be an on off device so only issue shoudl be changing the conectors on the S2 door loom for the S1 parts. The conector for the loom into the rest of the car looks identical on both door looms, however it wodul not surprise me if citroen have swapped all the pins about just for fun!

Hi Stewart

I know the lock electrical connectors are different. Mk1 has ears, Mk2 has a locking spring but agree that the wire allocation is likely to be common. The lock itself is the same rockwall moulding as the Mk1 one has the space for the deadlock with no motor fitted. Not sure about the plug from the door to the body as although they are the same type the the MK1 had provision for heated rear seat switches while the Mk2 did not.

Well, S1 rear doors fit strainght onto an S2, the S1 door loom plugs in, and the central locking, and door window works perfectly.. OK no dead lock, but the rest of it works exactly as intended!
