Hi Peter - if I've got the right car, the info on the listing has it down as a 2.5?

Isn't this the one that ruined it's engine swallowing a bit of a flood in the
'rainy season' last year? Andrew |

I've just acquired this car, so as I haven't yet started to investigate the engine, any info - facts for preference, as opposed to rumours!! - would be greatly appreciated! The car is generally in nice condition, just a very few body blemishes, so I might well be tempted to rebuild the lump and keep it, in which case my 2.1 estate will be up for grabs. Any help with sourcing engine bits, or even an engine, also appreciated.

Hi Neilp
If it is the one in the photo then I recall it being broken rocker problems with the engine. I though about bidding but did not because of the cost to me of shifting it. I thought the winner lived less than 20 miles from me. The heavy drinking 2.5 was black and went to one of the club members in Scotland because he too was chasing an engine or bits. If it's just broken rockers, then that's a result considering the condition of the rest of the car and the spec. If it has swallowed a puddle, then I'd think it would have bent one or two conrods as well? It's currently sitting outside the workshop at work, so if no-one knows any history I'll just have to start at the top of the engine and work down! I'd really rather not pull it all out if I don't have to though, so does anyone know for definite?

Hi Neilp
Only know the rocker bit from the ebay advert. I know the seller was a reasonably keen XM owner as a couple of years ago he contacted me over selling on an XM lock set I had won on ebay. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

It shouldn't take to long to take the rocker cover off and investigate, in fact I think the 2.5 is easier to get at than the 2.1.

If its just ROCKER fingers then they are replaceable WITHOUT removing the Cam or head!!
Remove the injectors and turn the engine over (By hand) and see what happens if anything... You'll need to remove the hydraulic lifters, compress them place them back in and then with the Can shaft in a certain way, lobe upwards, it IS possible to get the finger back in without the Cam out.... Why og why couldn't the 1905 XUD xantia units be like that! Age of design I guess.. Rgds C -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd

Hi citroenxm
Does that mean that I can replace the tappets on mine without taking the cam carrier off? Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

Might be trickier with the 2.1 as the carrier is narrower, so less fiddling room, but in theory it ought to be possible. I haven't yet had time to look under the lid, but I'll let you know what I find!
