A Few Spares Prices

I bought a few bits from Citroen this week.

The key pad cover which is a common breakage is listed as a "Glove-Box" . You have to buy the whole box that the keypad fits into but I can't see how a pair of gloves would fit in there! P/No 96020819ZL. Price £18.24.

The level detector for the 2.5 header tank. It looks like it's made out of Bakelite. You young 'uns wouldn't remember that! . P/No 1306C3 £31.23.

Small hose that runs from the top of the header tank and splits into two before connecting to the engine. P/No 131768 £26.37

Total £75.84 + VAT = £89.11 Ouch!

That's quite a total for just a few bits.

I used the level sensor of something like a saxo, it's not quite the same as the probe lengths are different but it fit's in the same way and still gives a low water level warning.

Bought a clutch cable and a outside temp probe from my local Cit dealer last week, "That'll be £136.86 please" "Have you got the decimal point in the wrong place mister? " apparently not. The first bits I've had buy from a main dealer though since getting the car, got off lightly so far!

How about £197 for an abs sensor or near £50 for an electric mirror switch
I steer well clear of cit now unless i need model specific part and have no choice.
Strangely though their pricing doesn't bother me too much, after all i I'm not forced to buy my parts there, its the fact they no longer make many parts for the xm, front mud flaps (but they still do the rears ) and almost all of the shaped breather hoses i needed

When I last replaced an ABS sensor, I went to eurocar spares or is it parts? The price then was approx £140 for a citroen boxed part, but I cobbled in one for a ZX at around£95, also genuine citroen. The wire comes out 90 degrees different, but there is plenty of spare and the sensor its self is the same, so not too pretty but it is still working more than five years later. I went for the ZX one because it was the cheapest sensor, but it might be worth looking at Xantia etc. There is a lot of info out about the particular type of wires to the sensors, suggesting that they are co ax cable, I am fairly sure certyain that this is misleading as the front to back wires from the sensors are just twisted pairs.
If you are thinking about the ZX option, I do vaguely remember some use of araldite in the bodge, so be prepared.
