According to the Ebayers history the last time it sold was 22nd Jan. I quite fancied it myself but the 'suede' interior put me off.

The suede interior probably looks the worst out of any interiors but it is very comfy. Plus it's not "cold" like leather interiors. I saw it too and quite fancied another first time around. It's just up the road from me too. I wonder whether it is the same seller? Cheers Tony |

Back to the petrol exclusive. Taking ebay at face value, a leap of faith I know, it changed hands from the original seller d... to the person now selling it p.... and feed back was given by d... to the buyer p... on 22 Jan. for prompt payment and collection. So far p... has not given feedback to d...
I could not get the original sale to appear in the completed listing price research page. It could be that it was thought cheaper to buy and resell rather than hire a car while his own was being fixed. Time will tell on that one. As it happens I much prefer the look of leather/suade combination to all leather,all in the eye of the beholder I guess. In addition to the advantages already mentioned you don't polish the seat of your best trousers as easily! Robert. |

I can see that there are advantages to suede seats, the leather in my Xantia used to burn a bit during the sunny days but it does smell so nice, no need for an airfreshner. Does suede have a similar smell?
Looking at that S1 diesel, would that be a true S1 or a 1.5? Is 40MPG possible, I would have thought maybe 32/35? Sorry for the questions but I don't know much about the S1s. If I can push my luck and ask another question - how does the ride compare to a Hydractive 2? I know that true S1 have a definite switch over to hard mode when in sports setting? All my SED/VSX's have had the standard type seat covering, I think the way it smells is determined by who's been driving it. Difficult to tell from the pictures if it's a Mk 1.5, if it is, it will have the later type steering wheel. I would think that 40 + mpg would be attainable, it depends entirely how you drive, my manual estates will exceed 50 mpg, but then not every one drives a gently as me. Either type of suspension will give the same superb ride if it is in good order, the early type can be switched permantly into 'hard' mode, if that's what you desire, whereas the Mk2 'sport' setting just makes the auto change to 'hard' come in earlier. Hi All
On thing to be aware of with suede seat covering is that it is very prone to wear problems compared to leather or cloth. In my experience by about 100k miles the bit of seude by the drivers seat pillar has been worn very thin or holed by the seat belt and catch. Difficult to rectify and not usually spotted when you first look round the car. There will always be the exception where a very particular owner has ensured minimal contact but I have not come across one yet. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Absolutely, the most important these days seems to be if the sytem will be working or not... This said there's a little detail that's different -and perhaps it's one of the reasons why Cit has created the system with 2 hydractive blocks rather than 1-. In the HII (June 1992 onwards), in each hydractive block, LHM cross-flows from a corner to the other across 2 paths: one is the "standard" path that existed in HI also, the same where the middle sphere gets its LHM from. There is now also another route that connects the two corner spheres, and there's a little ball in the middle of it, that makes for roll control when LHM flows accross and moves the little ball from one end of its casing to the other (totally blocking the flow of that path). I've read that, as with the HI the only means for roll control was 1/the "elimination" of the middle sphere and 2/ the antiroll bar, they had to resort to corner spehres that were *a tad* more damped than they'd like. The result of that is that when the system is in hard, it feels a bit too hard. They avoided this in the HII without having to resort to a thicker antiroll bar or so. The little ball is reducing cross-low (thus roll) as LHM flows from one to the other side ofthe car when turning in. Ingeniusly simple, isn't it? So, less damped spheres can be put at the corners, giving a more bearable "hard" mode, without loosing any handling performance. I'll add a photo of this ball system later. Steve, in HII you can practically achieve the same "constantly in hard" effect as achieved in the HI by switch, very simply: just remove the relevant fuse (suspension ecu fuse). I even think of connecting a little switch near the fuse cabling so I can be easily putting the car in total hard. I've been doing this lots in the past for control reasons -trying to figure out what the h...l was happening with my suspension-. So back to topic. I bought this car. To say I'm pleased is an understatement. The whole story from the reseller appears to hold water he has another XM and has used this one as a cheap (profitable as it happens!) hire whilst having his original one repaired. I believe him after all he works for the BBC! And I saw the other car which was a fine example.
It's early days yet but everything functions as it it should, except I fairly sure it needs Roy's fix, which is on it's way. There are receipts from the previous barrister owner for many thousands of pounds. It's had every little niggle fixed promptly regardless of cost. The interior is just lush, it's been frequently professionally valeted and is showing no real signs of wear and there's no damage. I was a bit concerned about the alcantara but it looks far better in the flesh and you don't slide around on it. I know I appear to have paid too much, but actually I don't think I have because it's going to be a while before I need to start spending any real money on it. Though if after a few more miles my optimistic opinion holds up I'll tidy up the few minor bodywork issues. Tomorrow I'm having a proper look underneath and spray the delicate parts with ACF 50 (brilliant stuff). So fingers crossed my next purchase won't be a flaring tool. I have to say this Forum is excellent, if only the internet had been around in the 70's and 80's I wouldn't have given up so easily on my CXs. -------------------- '96 XM Exclusive 2.0 Auto. RP 7080
