Great reading and an interesting discussion!
Nearly 24hours since I opened this post and the vote is a draw! I think the way this is looking, it really boils down to who prefers the look of their s1 and who likes their s2. Mind, from what I've picked up from colour co-ordinated s2 owners and the practicalities of living with scapes/dinks to the bumpers and cappings maybe I'm not in such a bad position after all... Probably the reason why I'm torn over what to do is that I'm sitting on the fence owning both s1 and s2 but with the new arrival of a silver s2 I'm wondering if I'm feeling a bit short changed that the s2 VSX has s1 bumpers/ door cappings! I voted for the black strips. It does seem to define the car better.

And it's neck and neck
I voted for colour coding, despite the fact that I have an S1. Although my car is dark grey, so it's almost colour coded anyway I don't automatically prefer colour coding on any car, but those are BIG lumps of plastic. Some way to tone them down is nice... especially on a silver car. -------------------- 1992 Citroen XM 2.0 I Automatic (daily driver)

i voted for the colour coding as well
mines all silver anyway but because ive taken the narrow silver plastic cappings off (water damage) for sanding/repainting i thought about what colour to do them its either going to be a deep metallic black or the original silver yet another variation -------------------- 2.1td xm exclusive in silver 1996 5door

I have always liked the black trim particulary on silver, but having seen the colour coded picture I rather like it. The only problem I see is the practicality of marks from other peoples doors on the rubbing strips and bumpers - not forgetting supermarket trolleys of course.

It definitely has to be colour coded.
The black plastic makes the car look dated and cheaper. Or entry spec so to speak. The colour coded on the V6 Mark 1's looks lovely when kept tidy, and the silver looks much newer and classier with the whole car being colour coded. Well here's the actual car in question.
Looks like I'm going to have to get some rubberised silver paint on it's bumper bits then... ![]() ![]() Uncannily just like that slightly older but lower mileage one that's just turned up on ebay with 23k miles. This one has a positively galactic 77k on it's 2.1TD engine and autobox... Andrew |

It's all a matter of taste, of course. But I vote for colour coding. And I would get rid of the mud guards/flaps - what do you call them - AND replace the wheels. I rather like those in the very first picture you showed, the Monte Carlo? -------------------- 2000 XM 3.0 V6 24v Exclusive Auto 70k km (LHD; ORGA 8569)

I REALLY don't like the Exclusive wheel trims; I mean alloy wheels...
Worst wheels seen on an Xm for me. The flat plastic trims are a 1000x better. The bobbly wheels pictured in the latest pics are the next least liked although I guess they're OK; these are odd in that they have SOLID centres rather than the earlier models' removable platic centre caps. In fact that only leaves the orginal at launch alloys but without the silly wheeltrim piece in the centre though at a push I can stomach them. In the end, I prefer the 24v V6 ones every time though if I can get hold of them, the optional from Citroen 6 spokes: ![]() Andrew |
