A friend here in Aus, and one of your UK ex-pats, George Thurnell, is trying to register to use the forum and he gets this message

Sorry, you are not permitted to use this board

This is perplexing.

I believe he uses one of the major telcos here in Aus, so is hopefully not IP banned, so why should he be blocked?

As George has two XMs already here in Aus (inc a 2.5 Estate) and owns two other V6 XMs, he will probably learn a lot from this forum.

Please assist/advise ASAP.

Thanks

He's not using a strange browser that scrambles some settings is he Craig? You know like Firefox has problems with links and popups sometimes.

Get him to try flushing out his temporary internet files, then attempt to register again.

Sometimes an incorrectly set cookie can cause strange issues like that you describe.

What OS and browser is he using anyway, and is he running any popup or script blocking software?

Ciarán

Hi UFO,

Can you PM me the guy's preferred user name, email address and IP number if possible. When we were under hourly attack from spambots I had to keep adding their IP's to the banned list to stop them. It is possible some or all of the IP addresses were DHCP rather than fixed so now someone legitimate is using one I have on the banned list. If he can identify his IP address I can check.

To check your IP just click on the "Start" button then select "Run...". Type "CMD" in the box next tot "Open". A DOS box opens on screen. Type in "ipconfig" and hit return. Your IP address is shown on the DOS screen. Type exit at the prompt to get rid of the DOS screen.

Cheers

Thanks. I have passed on the message. As both of us work in IT we should find that info on how to check your IP address really useful.... rolleyes.gif
