I like them in white, especially estates - but only when they are clean.

My estate was white and I agree it looked very well when clean but it required frequent effort to keep it that way, a right PITA in fact. One of only two reasons I consoled myself with when it was written off, the other being it made me feel very conspicuous due to the numbers of people who related spotting me at various places. Not that I was up to anything mind, simply found it a bit irritating.
Consoled myself also that the car was strong and none of us were hurt in the accident, but that wasn't due to the colour! All the above stopped when I had my next XM - that nice anonymous green! Robert. |

Yeah i think your right, there are more in Australia, I have seen a couple of hatchbacks and famialle versions at some traction events, very different! The car wasnt't used to test tyres, but to test the skid resistance of road surfaces on accident blackspots etc. The car in the last picture on the first page of this thread is my car when it was new. It was one of three tractions used for this job, although ours is the only one which used the hydropneumatic suspension to operate the 5th centre wheel moving it up from the road and lowering it down too. I think the XM looks great in white, it gets quite a few looks too. I agree, looks so nice when its clean but not as good when its not! It doesnt get very much use and its covered when ever its stood so luckily it is usually clean. As with most cars though, colour is not usually something you can choose on a used car, especially with something as rare as the XM, finding a good one in great condition takes some doing, so colour is the last thing on your mind. Although white would probably have been my choice anyway Thanks for the comments. -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

They were taken on the Yorkshire moors on the way back from Hull. Yes the scenery is fantastic, the ideal place for a spot of xm pictures.

Yeah, you are lucky to have a black one, but I am now quite fond of the dark red, and the light blue on my S2 car thats the only one running at the moment seems to look its best in the autumn sunshine for some reason. Now, gold does look good on an XM, slightly better than black IMHO... Not sure if I've seen a S2 in Gold though. -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)

Ive finally got the wheels ive always wanted for the Xm! So i brought the Xm out of winter hibernation today to have a trial fit of them. I went for a little drive to get some pictures:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They look great as they are, however i plan to get them refurbished and get some new tyres for the alloys. I think it looks a little under-tyred at the moment, but then im used to seeing it with higher profiles. My tyres are 195/65/15 - standard for the 2.0 16v and those are 195/60/15, so slightly lower profile, but they dont fill the arch as much. The tyres need replacing so ill get that sorted asap. Next cosmetic thing is to remove that awful towbar! Its been handy over the years, but it ruins the look of the back of the car, so that will be removed soon. Oh, and get it into the bodyshop for a bit of a tidy up, hopefully before too long. Thanks Dean, for the wheels I hope i have not over done it with the pictures Chris -------------------- 1995 'N' XM 2.1TD VSX Manual Estate, magenta red - 62K miles

Very nice Chris, look a damn sight better on your car than in the corner of my garage, in fact i would go as far as to say they make the car! they make it look totaly different, and they seem to work very well with a white car too, never liked those trims you had on there, made it look a bit......... low spec.

Looks very smart in it's new shoes Chris!
I'd say these are the nicest standard wheel available on the Xm. So when is your current avatar going to change to a new piccy then? The low worm's eye front view with it on lock looks good! I'd leave the towbar alone as it's totally unobtrusive hiding in the shadows and is very handy for muppet avoidance as well as towing! Andrew |

Thanks for the comments
Im very pleased with how they look Dean, makes it look like a higher spec your right. Are these the wheels which came with your Prestige from new? Im just wondering what model uses this tyre size, as its quite small. Ive looked through the brochure but the normal size for those is 205/60, although thats S2. The first thing my dad said was "be careful when you put it in low, the mudflaps will be on the floor! Incidentally the ride height, i cant decide if it looks right, too down at the back or too high at the front?! Thanks Andrew, i agree, they are the best designed wheel for the Xm Im onto it Thats true, it has saved the bumper when a muppet collided with back of the Xm in traffic, thankfully no damage due to the towbar (only a minor knock) so it didnt touch the bumper, but the fiestas bumper had cracked The tow bar has been used a fair bit while we have had it, mostly for the horsebox up and down the country. Although it doesnt get used for that now. Nearly needed it at the weekend to rescue the horses when the horse wagon broke down mind! Fortunately we were able to borrow a 4x4! So I may leave it on and just paint the protection plate black again, but id rather take it off. I got a thumbs up from a guy walking past the Xm while I was sat at a junction today, they certainly get a lot of attention these Xms! Chris,
If you've ever had the misfortune to hang about in a tyre fitting outfit customer waiting room near the sales counter you'll hear the usual, "don't worry mate, these tyres on special offer are a bit of a lower profile but it won't cause any problems; in fact it will improve the handling of your Fiesta/Micra/Megane and the other size you asked for is sold out/little used/ has no decent profit margin... (delete where appropriate!) I'd say the car looks low at the back, don't think the front looks too wrong. I thought the picture was taken after it had slightly dropped actually! In my experience nobody notices the Xm's; probably not as spangly fresh and clean as yours! I've seen folk stop dead in their tracks and stare when I'm in the CX - maybe because it stands out in white? Andrew This post has been edited by Andmcit on January 21, 2009 09:03 pm |
