Hi

I have decided to sell my only manual XM. I don't really know why I bought it as I always drive autos. However, due to the condition, I had to have it. Now its for sale.

It is the actual car used by CAR magazine in a road test article in May 1995. Its M129 PRX, by the way, registered Jan 1995.

Its white, has the grey cloth interior and is unmarked. Its the 2.0 litre petrol engined car. Its had a cambelt 19000 miles ago and needs nothing except using. Its done 150,000 miles and has a full service history. The car looks like a really low mileage car.

Being critical, it could do with the chrome inserts being replaced here and there but thats about it.

The displays all work, and the car was MoT'd in September so has 9 months to go.

I'm having it professionally valeted this week so I'll take some pictures if anyone is interested.

I understand what you say in the listing about not all folk liking white for a car - but I think it suits the XM particularly well - rear view especially.

Good luck with the sale Brad.

Hi Techman,

RE the chrome insert strips, are you able to supply them for the front and rear bumpers yet?

Regards

Thanks.

I have bought two more 800's this week. I have collected 800's since 1988 when I bought my first. The lowest mileage cars I have are F reg 820SE with 3850 miles, my first 827 K reg Coupe with 9000 miles and its sister car with 19000 miles. I only buy the very best.

I am reluctantly selling a 1996 P reg Rover Vitesse Sport with 34000 miles as its just too uncomfortable. Condition is perfect.

The XM Prestige and one of my XM VSX Estates I have owned from new and nearly new. Great cars. Often misunderstood by observers. But who cares? biggrin.gif

Hi Brad,

I'd assumed that the list of cars under your signature were cars you had owned, seems I was wrong! Where do you keep them all?

Any chance of a real owner's comparison between the XMs and the Lexus? I realise that performance is not comparable.

Derek

I keep them all at home under lock and key. My signature list doesn't list all my cars as I just ran out of interest when compiling the list and decided I had declared enough. Almost all are dry stored in heated, double skinned metal aircraft hangar style out buildings. About 10 are outdoors.

The Lexus LS400 is a far comfier ride than an XM but has inferior seats. I am over 6 feet 8 so space is what I like most in a car and the Lexus is huge in all directions.

The Lexus 4.0 V8 has given me 114000 trouble free miles. Ten services, no faults, no recalls, no failures except a dodgy light bulb on the air con display. The Xm's...well, they are Citroens!

I enjoy owning and running XMs and have done so for 15 years. I like their individuality, quietness, quirkiness, seats, legroom and visibility. Subtle colors, too.

I had an early 3.0 C6 but that was disappointing and not worth the money. Too much Peugeot inside with Fiat/Citroen van wiper stalks and the usual very poor Citroen dealer care. They just haven't a clue. I kept it 8 weeks.

I am afraid, though, that my main passion is with Rover 800s. I have owned these for 20 years and now buy at least one every month to add to the collection.

I hope that answers what you wanted to know, Derek. If you want to see some pictures just ask.

Brad, it would be great to see some pictures of your collection, it amazes me you have the space and time for so many, not to mention the fortune it must cost to keep them all maintained and on the road!
Are they all regularly driven etc, or do you have some resting here and there?

You're giving Andmcit a run for his money! laugh.gif

Roll the clock forward 20 years and Brad will feature in Practical Classics........." Amazing barn find - eclectic collector shows us his collection. Readers may note that the majority of the cars were not indeed imported by the Chinese Nanjang Corporation but are actually real Rover vehicles that were originally built in the UK" tongue.gif

Ciarán

If someone tells me how to download pictures onto this forum, I shall be pleased to.

All the cars are running and start at the turn of the key once the batteries are fitted. I run my own business and have done so for 31 years. However, the cars are a full time job too keeping them clean and the tyres all pumped up. The thing with machines, of course, is the need to use them or else they just deteriorate. This is why I have a system of charging, starting, driving and cleaning which means all cars are used at least once a month for at least 30 minutes. I also use a few of them as everyday cars. At present that's a Lexus LS400, 1989 Rover 827Si, 1990 Vitesse 827 auto, 1995 XM estate, 2007 C4 Grand Picasso VTR+, Vel Satis, Renault 5TR, 1997 Vitesse Sport, 1998 Vitesse Coupe and a 2000 reg Sterling Coupe.

It is expensive (I had 111 cars until December) but buying in bulk (oil, tyres, spares) helps. For example, I bought a pallet of track rod ends for the 800s about a year ago for £50 and 60 sets of new, boxed rear lights for £25. As well as the cars, I also have some new bodyshells and about 40 sets of new alloys. But this has taken 20 years to amass.

Who is Andmcit anyway? You mention this name like I should know who he or she might be.

Andmcit posts here, and on the CX forum, a lot. He is wont to say things like "I'm getting pressurised over space; I'm going to have to sell 9 XMs, 9CX's, some Xantias and a GS", as if that was after dinner conversation.....
