Front Wheel Arch Mud, Amount of gunge

Did a service this weekend ,oil change etc and while looking for my hidden rattle i removed the offside mud flap and wheelarch plastic cover .
I discovered about two great handfuls of sandy mud gunge filling the lower front wing/sill .
Iwas amazed to find no rust in there but removed the gunge and washed it all out and then sprayed some aerosol grease into the aperture.
This used to be a major cause of corrosion on earlier cars but does not seem to affect xms?
Anyway might be a good thing to look at to increase the longevity of body work.
Still three more to do ,the rattle is still there and the engine still cuts out occasionally ,but all said im' still impressed.

You're right Bob about the collection of gunge at that point. I couldn't believe how much had gathered in ther when I took mine off.
The only thing which saves the XM in these locations is the galvanising of the bodwork.
