This winter I began hearing occasional rattling and buzzing relays on both ends of the dashboard, I would say somewhere in the fusebox zone on the left side and underneath the glovebox on the right. They do it from time to time, never both sides at a time, for several seconds, totally unconnected to any other electric function or action being taken. During this electric storm the car preserves normal functioning.
I have found no connection between this symptom and specific functions, circuits etc. being active or switched on. Ground yourself better, you said? OK, if this would be the problem, where are the ground points for these relays, how many relays will I find on both positions and what are their functions? Thank you. Hi John
Probably the most common cause of chattering relays is the indicator switch, they seem to go leaky internally presumably due to metal dust from the contacts. Try giving the switch a good workout, that has usually cured mine. Peter.N. -------------------- Used to have:

Thank you Peter. Do you mean indicator light switch on the steering wheel?

Either the indicator switch, or if it sounds like an old decadic phone exchange, check your alternator - NOW! (trust me - I know...

I had both sounds but it is actually the indicator switch. It stops relays from chattering when either direction light is on or when slightly pulled for pass light. Dismantled, cleaned with contact spray and flushed afterwards. Solved. Thank you for your advice.

I recently had the "chattering" relays. My Indie traced it to the alternator. This was replaced and the problem was cured (touch wood!).
