The Brake Control Valve Compensator on my Citroen XM is leaking LHM very badly. (This part is situated near the front windscreen wiper motor)
A new one from my local Citroen dealer is £172.18 including VAT - Ouch! Is this part repairable? I.E. new seals, or whatever it might need. If not, would anyone be aware of a better price than the one above, or even a place where I could get a refurbished one from. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. With thanks. And UK |

GSF mention them but do not actually have one, they had to refund my money. Eurocarparts did have them, I went there and got one off the shelf for just over £100 with the VAT but having just done a search they are now saying they haven't got one. I believe the Xantia has the same part. If you are stuck you are welcome to my old one, there was nothing wrong with it, it was just one of the power steering/brake light suggested cures.

Hi Anduk, No repair kit is available from citroen , but pleiades will do an exchange or o/haul your own unit. I get all my hydraulic parts from them and have always had reliable service with a first class quality product - i have never replaced a pleiades o/hauled component on either of my 2 cars ,superb service.

Haynes claim that the brake valve is repairable and that Citroen supply a repair kit. Anyone any knowledge or is this another Haynes fairy story. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi xmexclusive, citroen do NOT list a repair kit for the brake control valve, but do supply all the individual seals and components. so you have to list each piece to order a " REPAIR KIT". What a bollocks!

The most likely leak is at the boot through which the push rod travels. There obviously are wearing parts internally but no repair kit is listed.

If we're talking about the doseur valve (see recent topic) You can order the small seal from Citroen (about £1.30) and the large seal in packs of 10! I have just ordered both so if anyone wants one of the large seals (about £1.50 each) just let me know.

any destructions on how to rebuild, and part numbers?
I've one sitting in the garage that I took off the V6 a couple years back after it decided to leak, could be worth a rebuild as a good spare for next time. Then again, I think I've another somewhere too taht's probably ok. regards Dave -------------------- G-reg XM V6SEi saloon, light blue, RP4764

Thanks both, the doseur.pdf & brake valve.jpg are really useful as I have a leaking valve.
I assume all I really need to change is the rubber protector, 8 in fig 1 of doseur.pdf. What I'm not sure of is how the lock ring holds it in as it says to remove with a screwdriver - is it re-useable? Am I right in assuming that the LHD and RHD versions are different with the spacer, push rod etc only required on the LHD? Thats how it appears in the Haynes manual and as mine doesn't have them. Also if all I need to change is the rubber protector can I change it in situ as it looks fairly accesible. What do you think? Cheers, Graham |

Hi Graham
All I have ever done on the doseur valve is adjust the clearance between the relay lever and the rubber button (a lack of clearance or a rusted up relay lever are well known causes of brake binding). Presumably your valve is leaking because the rubber seal/button (item 8) is holed or perished. Very slow leakage from the piston is normal but is usually conducted back to the LHM reservoir via the leak off connection. It seems to me that the purpose of the lock ring is to provide an interference fit keeping the exterior rib on the rubber snugly located in the body groove ( and thus leaktight). If gradually levered out with a screwdriver the ring should be reusable and it is probably best to lubricate it with LHM when replacing it with some sort of mandrel. I imagine that this would be the most awkward part of doing the repair with the valve still in place. Ken -------------------- 97R XM 2.1 TD VSX Saloon, RP 7249, Emerald Green

Suggest you go to the Club-XM homepage and under 'Files' you will find the facility to download Zeljko Nastasic and Gabor Deak Jahn's 'The Citroën Technical Guide' in PDF format.
