It's bothering me no end that my alarm will go crazy and not turn off if the battery is disconnected, and I know that many here are looking for plippers, so there's no point my asking. Are they available from Citroen still?

I believe so. I got one from them about 4 years ago and it was about £70. That was a MkII Radio one.

Ouch. Not cheap, but cheaper than being stranded in a carpark somewhere because you left your lights on.

Hi Sam
The full Mk2 set, receiver and 2 plippers is now around £300 from Citroen and I think a single plip is now near £90. There are aftermarket sets that will work in Mk2's for about £35. Cannot remember if yours is a Mk1 or Mk2 car so cannot be specific about helping. As you are near me you are welcome to make contact and come and see me. I have a few spare working Mk2 plip bits and also an aftermarket set. I also have at the moment a test rig in a scrap car to check Mk2 plip bits out on. I am still working my way through my spare Mk1 plip bits as nothing working paired up so I have been busy with the soldering iron repairing pcb's and swapping sensors. Need to find the time to check the results out. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

It's a mark 1.5, I think. 1994, dot matrix display. Does that make it easier, or harder?

Ok, but what does that mean for plippers? More, or less expensive? Harder, or easier to find? And are there aftermarket ones?

Hi Sam
Not sure if a Mk1 plip/receiver can be bought new. They were mostly "hard" coded by cutting tracks on the pcb's to match the pair. Aftermarket kits may be a problem as the space for the receiver is too small in the centre light. There is a PSA generic kit (2 plips/rec) that plugs straight into a Mk1 but this costs about £100. Virtually any more recent Citroen single button IR plip/rec pair will fit the XM but you see very few of these sets from scrap yards. I have a "repaired" Mk1 XM set that I need to test out on a car but do not have a Mk1 to try it in. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

*cough*
I have a mark 1 to try it on, if that's of interest? Would you be interested in selling it, if we could make it work? -------------------- 1966 Triumph Herald convertible with big valve twin carb Spitfire head

Hi Sam
Sure, not a problem. If you can find a convinent time to come to Winchester then we can check the Mk1 set out and if necessary look at other solutions. Regards John -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi All
Just an update as I managed to check out the repaired Mk1 plip set by wiring it to operate the locking in a Mk2. Just the door locks not the dead locking as it is only a single button plip set. Regards XMexc -------------------- An interest in 2.5TD's.

Hi Sam,
Presumably you know the sequence to cancel the alarm without a plipper? Its very easy. Just hold in the button on the dash which is used to disable the internal movement sensors with the ignition off. Then, turn the ignition on, still holding the button on the dash in. Hold for 5 seconds and the alarm is cancelled. Job done. Hope that helps until you get your plipper. Cheers noz -------------------- '10 '59' C5 2.0 HDi Exclusive Tourer Metallic Grey

Noz,
Is that the black TINY SMALL button next to the LED that is located above the Ash Tray?? (S1 cars remember) I haddn't thought of that one when I was in a mess with Sams car! S2's have a better PLIP less cancelation then S1 cars... Rgds C -------------------- 1993 K Reg 3.0 V6 12 Valve Auto (Green) LPG S1.5 SORNd

PS:
I couldn't get a Xantia match pair to work in a S1 XM either. But I beleve ZX's plippers will work, as these are single button units. I'm trying to get one off ebay to try, but they keep getting so expensive.. Why are people so careless and loose these things!
