This wouldn't be the cause of poor forum running speeds elsewhere?
Anything to be worried about? I'm quite happy to admit I don't know
anything about the behind the scenes running on forums...

I don't remember seeing it here for some months though.
Let's face it slow running here means a slight delay in the page loading. Slow running on the BX forum means waiting 10 minutes instead of the usual 5 for the page to load. wacko.gif Or even giving up and having a look later!

HI all,

I did notice a lot of Goolebot activity over the last 4-5 days or so. From the little I know it sounds like good news to me. If you search on Citroen XM in google then Club-XM comes top of the list just under the sponsored ads. I'm sure that having the bot crawl all over the site is what contributes to getting us up there.

Since there's nothing sensitive about the info in club-xm I can't see the harm. If you were running a business and didn't want google crawling all over your data then I can see that might cause a bit of consternation.

cheers

It looks like google has nothing else to do but crawl all over club-xm. He's here every time I visit. I wonder why it so interested in us all of a sudden?

I can't see the effects of its visits at all. If I take a copy of the text from a post that it has visited and then do a search on google with the same text then it doesn't find the post, or club-xm for that matter. So what good does it do? I noticed that when you search on "citroen xm" the club-xm comes top of the list. However, its the front page of club-xm which comes up and that page hasn't changed for 3 years. None of the forum pages comes up and yet thats where mr google resides all the time.

Does anyone know how google works?

cheers

I believe that there is a part of the answer to that question that is only known within the Google campuses. They don't like to tell too much about how their algorithms work, but there is a fair bit of info on the web about it if you want to spend hours reading about it.
