It would help if the retailers - Tesco, Asda, B&Q, etc didn't design their parking spaces around a 1920's Model T Ford.......they must realise that cars are bigger these days.

A decent parking space should allow the doors of any car to be opened fully without touching the car in the next space.......in my oppinion

The best parking spaces we have in Leeds are in the carpark at Costco, there's an area about three feet wide marked out between each parking space.......of course there are still those who require two spaces, so they can park diagonally.........how did they pass a driving test wacko.gif ?

Ah! but then they wouldn't get as many cars in their car park and wouldn't make so much money.

And yes i like to looke at my xm too, sad aint it rolleyes.gif

Not sad, XM's look great,

I took the blue one out for the first time in a while today, parked it up on the downs at the top of the Avon Gorge, where the ice cream van hangs out when there are more people about, went for a stroll around the downs in DAYLIGHT! It looked REALLY good walking back to it across the football pitches into the setting sun:-)

Red one picked up a slow leak in front O/S tyre last nite :-(.

I'm going to stop before I make myself angry again, I really don't want to have a heart attack before I'm 30 :lol

Ciaran, these things do happen, you can try and minimize the risks by driving and parking sensibly, and I do know what you're talking about but the minor things like mirrors, keyed roofs, scraped bumpers, wing dings are ultimately out of your control and you keep on with the XM's even though you know that the insurance value is negligible so better just direct your energy into fixing them if you can be bothered and preferably run 2 XM's so you have a spare if need be. They will take a lot of punishment of this kind and you're not looking to sell them are you?

At least thats my current philosophy having suffered as an inner city on street parking XM driver since 1998.

I went clubbing last night and parked the red one on Stokes Croft, quite a busy nightlife area near the city centre, insecurity tried to grab me very briefly, I was worried about
being parked too near the bus stop, worried about the mirrors, worried about attempted breakin, worried about maybe having to leave it overnight due to slow tyre leak that had just become apparent, but only for a fleeting few seconds.

It did look good walking back to it up the street parked just above the bus stop with nothing else in front of it :-) Tye had gone quite low again but drove up the hill to garage, pumped it up, back home, no problem.

i really do aviod multi stories if at all possible, they can be a nightmare and with a tow bar on the front will poke out.

I an quite thin so I can squeeze in and out thru partially open doors, but sometimes it gets a bit ridiculous in any car park.

My worst memory is actually of a Xantia in multi-stories in Gran Canara, what with it being a left hand drive and lots ofvery small and awkward spaces, and as for the incredibly tiny underground hotel "car park", I don't think and XM would have gone into that one!

The best cinema round here is Brighton Marina, a modern development with a surprisingly tight multi-storey car park, given that modern cars are so big.

I go there reasonably often, and I find that I have to take some care to get the XM round the tight bits.

I invariably get stuck behind someone in a much smaller car (last time it was a Clio) who's making a real meal of it though. I mean yes it's tight, but it's not that tight. If I can get round it in one in an XM you really shouldn't be holding me up in your Clio!!
