He's a trusting lad.
I wouldn't expect anyone in those blandmobiles to even notice this glass nosed stainless steel ended looooooww wide weird Citroen that sinks down below most folk's radar. I've picked up a cracked grille and damaged bonnet nose eyebrows from some muppet riding over my Cx and have numerous cracks and splits on the Xm's especially the nosecone headlight surrounds. Sadly most idots are unable to park without the need of park-by-touch/ignorance/ arrogance. The sad fact is, I'm unable to leave my more cherished Citroens in their own exclusion zone every time I have to stop somewhere - usually the furthest point from the shops, entrance etc. On the balance of things, I think he's mad. That or he's got a storeroom full of spare bumpers, glass nosecone sections etc... Andrew |

re the SM, its just round the corner from the idies (they have no "yard") and they park cars there all the time and its not a total dead end but a VERY steep hill at the end so that street is only really used by residents and for parking not for rat running. As for madness, the senior guy there runs an XM! I know what you mean though about people not noticing XM front ends though, especially when an S1 car has sunk. I was really proud of the nice new bumper I had on there in '99 for a few weeks, until the first scuff mark appeared on the corner. I did't QUITE have the wits about me to video it on my phone when I stood and watched an old guy in a Cavalier with a towbar keep trying to go back a bit more into my number plate a while back. I let him off because it was cracked already, but he obviously couldn't see where the front end was, and that was the S2 car. be very glad the XM is French and hence has good bumpers! -------------------- XM 2.0i Prestiege (Red) 1992 K reg RP 5692 (deceased)

Yep, tonight I was washing my S1, and when doing the driver's side wing, I noticed the surround between the wing and headlight looked slightly wrong for some reason. Upon closer examination, there's a small hairline crack along the top of the plastic Whenever I'm in a carpark waiting on someone, I watch other cars come and go, and its truly shocking just how many selfish / careless people you see clipping other vehicles with their doors and just carrying on, bumping other cars when parking etc. I always park well away from the entrance of the store, trying to get a space on its own if I can. If its absolutely unavoidable, I try and park near uber expensive cars, the kind that aren't going to have their doors flung open, for fear of damaging them on your old Citroen At work I normally opt for a space which has a tree on one side of it, and lamp post on another. This stops other cars from getting too close in most cases. If that space isn't available then I goto one between a Porsche and a clean Merc estate, pretty safe there I hate the fact that no matter how much you like your car, and you can be as careful as you like, but it can still be damaged by other people's selfish/carelessness. Just this weekend my S2 was victim to some moron. Leanne was driving it through town and was going round a slight left hand bend, when this woman in a BMW 3 series, yakking on her phone, came round in the opposite direction - her car over the white line and into the other lane! It was a thin road and Leanne was forced to swerve left to avoid a collision. Unfortunately it hit the kerb at speed, warping the front passenger side rim, and blowing out the tyre instantly. Luckily she managed to safely bring it to a stop and pull off the road, and meanwhile the woman in the BMW continued on, totally oblivious! I was fit to be tied when I found out, even moreso when I had to go out and fix it, and saw the damage That same car had the bottom of the passenger front door pushed in in some unknown carpark a few months back too. I'm going to stop before I make myself angry again, I really don't want to have a heart attack before I'm 30 Ciarán -------------------- '95 XM 2.1TD VSX Hatch: RP 6429. Rare green ;-)

Lucky you Dean, mine would have serious issues with me (and the car) if I proposed that, seems you've trained yours well! The best solution I've found is to park far away from the crowds, at that side of the parking that 's sooo far away from the shop entrance that no sane person chooses. Plus, you get the bonus (if u r mad) of seeing the XM in full when coming back Ciaran, happens to me every time I get a second look at the car, that's why now I don't bother anymore -only worry about rust issues- and have decided that when the time comes it'll get a nice full respray and then 20,000 volts wired across it...I was close to having a heart attack when the first incidents hapenned, back then its paint was like new. The only problem with parking over the other side of the carpark is that is where the really bad drivers park

Re the shopping situation, I don't 'do' shops really, the girlfriend does nearly all of it.
The advantage of this is I rarely have to go near Tescos and the like. Downside is that one of my XMs must visit the place regularly and be left unattended. Usually its the green one, and it has bourne the scars (that back door incident happened there I believe). However, we've now found a few safe places to leave it, one of which I call 'the XM space'. This is a bay at the very very end of the carpark, and is actually much wider than all the others for some reason, ideal for an ultrabarge like our favourite machine! The lazy / careless people can't be bothered walking that far, and instead tend to shoehorn into all the spaces near the store, or into the parent & child / disabled bays in their modified Paxos, 4x4s and MR2s anyway, (and after parking badly, then happily skip into the shop looking non too disabled, nor do they have kids in tow), so I tend to stay away from that end of it now too.
