Hi All

Thinking about this one already but something would have to go to make room.
It seems to have a Mk1 grill and front bumper all a little off colour along with the drivers front wing. So I suspect a minor accident repair not done by a professional Citroen source. From the door panels the leather looks to me to be Mk2 original. Otherwise it would have light grey carpet and centre console side panels. Pity it has no aircon fitted.

Regards

It's rather nice, isn't it? A manual diesel estate, with leather. If it was a 2.1, it'd be my perfect car.

The back end looks very low, shouldn't it have anti sink?

What's the story with the nearside rear door bottom and the s1 nearside door mirror?

That, with the off colour front wing and wrong front end suggests it's been in a
demolition derby and even if it's perfect underneath, with all the new (old) bits,
could you live with the thing not looking right...

I wouldn't get excited about bidding!

Andrew

I've had worse....

And it's certainly cheap.....at the moment

What I'd like to know is why the 2.5 is so unpopular......everyone seems to want a 2.1.......

Sorry to anyone else with a white one but I don't think this colour suits the XM at all.

Ok as a base for the ambulance conversion I suppose tongue.gif

If it was a 2.1 I would be interested. To work on a 2.5 you need to be double jointed and have fingers 12" long and 1/4" in diameter, that's why us lesser mortals prefer the 2.1 and the price and availability of spares of course... There is no doubt though that the 2.5 is better to drive.

Another factor in owning a 2.5 is the cost of parts if you can find them...

Hi all

It's rough ! Been to see it this morning. Mix of various colours around the front; damage and paint off to both LH doors, the odd mirror, as noted. Dent to LH rear quarter Generally uncared for appearance under the bonnet (but not messed with) with corrosion becoming visible on the RH inner wing, on the seams ahead of the strut top. Significant scrubbing to inner edge of RH front tyre. Chap says it has developed a wobble at around 50. Remaining original paint is pretty 'dead' Best way I would sum up the overall picture is that if someone said it was a well used 1990 rather than a 98, you'd not be surprised. Looks to be an oil leak --- there's oil (or some fluid) clearly coating the front subframe RH rear corner.

Battery sounded a little tired but it fired up OK after a short glowplug wait and sounded pretty typical. No sign of water in the oil and a hint of anti freeze in the bottle. Level looked about average (just below the indicator tab). Chap says he tops it up 'occasionally'. Remotes don't work (didn't think to ask if he actually has them). Tailgate pushbutton typically sticky. Dismal looking headlamps --- can't think my tester would have passed the RH one at all. As he states in the ad, ABS lamp on. Couldn't satisfactorily move the height selector to much beyond intermediate high, but the level went up OK. Set back to normal -- front went back down, back stayed high. Suspect knacked RH front sphere --- rock hard. LH front OK. Couldn't check rears as stuck in high, apparently. Console insert around height selector all seems a bit loose and the keypad is disconnected -- stopped working, apparently.

Good bits --- The interior. Newish intermediate silencer. Good front subframe. Sills seemed good with only modest indents from incorrect jacking. Underside generally seemed OK, but very heavy mud caking at front --- wouldn't be at all surprised if the thin bits of tin in front of the front arch liners aren't there.

Overall, for the age, I thought it very disappointing. Clearly hasn't had much in the way of care and attention lavished on it. Don't think there's any servicing paperwork at all.

Mike.

QUOTE (onthecut @ Feb 8 2008, 13:16 PM)

Hi onthecut

If I think of the same point as you, my car also was found to have a ciggy-pack sized whole at that point in the last MOT: it's because of the weakened expansion tank cap steaming towards that area. I'd have avoided this if I had put a new cap earlier. Welded now and Ok, anyway.

The interior in that one looks beautiful. Overall it sounds like it needs some TLC and minor spares from an experienced XM-er to become a nice car -lots of...lubrication, mostly- ?

cheers
George

Hi George

The corrosion on this won't be expansion bottle related, as the tank sits middle front of the engine.

My underlying feeling is that notwithstanding the interior, you'd have to be pretty keen to get this fully back to the kind of state we'd all expect a late year XM to be in.

Mike.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the survey on the 2.5, not that they are my poison but its interesting to know. Your report does cheer me somewhat regarding the 2.1 sx I bought on Wednesday, compared with that one its immaculate! I was going to use it for spares but its far too good really and I only paid £250.00 for it, albeit without a clutch, it was fun getting out of Slough, but a doddle once I got on the motorway.

GSF dont list a clutch for a 2.1 XM although they do for the Xantia and 406, any idea what the difference is? or where and what is best?

Hi Peter.

Have a look at this http://www.valeoservice.com/html/unitedkingdom/en/

Takes a bit of wading through, but should have the clutch info you need.

Mike.
